Magnús Scheving at the premiere Glanni glæpur í Latabæ 2025

Sportacus was thrilled with the Keflavík Theatre Company's production of Glanni glæpur í Latabæ.

Magnús Scheving came running up on stage at the premiere!

There was definitely pressure on the Keflavík Theatre Company's cast at the premiere of Glanni glæpur í Latabæ last Friday night. Sportacus himself and author, Magnús Scheving, was at the premiere and had a great time with the production. At the end of the show, when the cast had been applauded, Magnús came running up on stage. He had clearly not forgotten his role as Sportacus, both on stage and no less in the television series about Latabær. Magnús was so pleased with the cast and the performance that he invited everyone out to dinner at his restaurant, ROK.

The Keflavík Theatre Company's production of Glanni glæpur í Latabæ is great. LazyTown is aging well and director Brynja Ýr Júlíusdóttir made entertaining updates from the 1999 version to the 2025 version. Stína's telephone line has the latest telephone technology and services and it would be nice if there wasn't a reference to Póstinn Pál at one point in the work. Then there are TEMU, Wolt and various other things that adults enjoy when they take their children to Glanni glæpur í Latabæ.

The Keflavík Theatre Company's performance is great and a good reason to encourage people from the South to go to the theatre and have a fun time with the young people. A great group of actors where all the text is well received by the audience.

Magnús: - I have fans of all ages and I don't think it's weird when older people like LazyTown. LazyTown appeals to people for many different reasons: dancing, acrobatics, etc.

That’s so cool! I like how a bunch of them are using their real hair instead of wigs

Looks like nobody has uploaded a video of that event yet.
          I did find one from a 2018 performance. I'm sure it's already
been posted. This includes an internet search not just youtube.

That's from another play indeed. It seems like every few years there is a new performance of the play.

I'm researching Iceland for a school project. Since this play has been performed numerous times since 1999, should I cover it?

That would certainly be unique! I’m sure everybody else will be doing something about Vikings. I bet your teacher would appreciate something more nuanced.

I don't see why not. Besides Bjork, Lazytown is the biggest export Iceland ever had.
Probably added nicely to Iceland's GDP in its prime.

An old article from the fallout of the crash of 2007

As the Icelandic economy melts down, "Lazy Town" -- which directly employs just 50 people normally and 160 when the show is in production -- has been bombarded with job applications, many from soon-to-be redundant bankers.

Scheving said he received over 250 work applications in three days in early October, when the country's debt-heavy banks were sucked into the global financial crisis.

These are grim times for Iceland, which after rampant growth expects it could need to borrow some $24 billion over several years to ensure its financial system and currency can function properly again.

Its prime minister said in October the crisis could cost the country 85 percent of 2007 GDP.
