I do believe you need to use Firefox. From what I've read it's the only browser that supports animated png's. APNG.

you can do gifs with every video format...given that your video editor are able to handle all of them

Oh good, thanks. I can't get Sony Vegas 10 to accept AVI files, so it's WMV or nothing for me.
