Yeah isn't Reykjavík powered on the steam from below it's surface or something like that?

They have green energy but they can't export the technology, as it require the underground heat (or steam). It dosen't produce enough energy for export either. And if it did - it's probably just to far away (and to deep) to stretch a fat power-cable from Iceland to Canada or U.S. It's like getting a free Bugatti Veyron - but no road to drive on.

The fishing industry provides 70% of their export income, and after calculation of (exports?imports) the result ain't really like the gonna take off - if we look 20 years into the future. As for Iceland now they're probably using the keynesian model while blowing the socialist wave, where Icelanders become employees in the goverment (yes, bureaucrat) - to have something to do, then later they start flattening out.

Iceland is just a bit "off World" - Icelanders never had anything to show or to be proud of :?
But you're original statement was this. *looks up*
Being proficient in Green Energy doesn't leave anything to show for?
Or be proud of? You make alot of valid points, but saying another country has nothing to be proud of is a pretty bold statement. I'm not upset with you, i just think you should consider the gravity of what you have said.

maybe I'm wrong...but isn't iceland well known for their green energy technology?...I just think so
Yes, I forgot about that as well. Over all, Iceland is awesome, and considering they'r population is of aprox. 300.000 and they have no natural resources, and live in a prety hostile climate, and have NO agricultural potential, I think it's a great country...besides, if I'm not mistaken, Iceland, along with the other scandinavian states and Switzerland, has (the econimic depretion is passing there BTW) the highest standards of living, and one of the best social sistems on the Globe, and one of the lowest crime ratious. So even if they don't have any damous brands, for example, they still have every reason to be a proud nation.I mean compare Iceland with Russia or France on that and you'll understand.

TBH, Iceland's climate is only hostile in the highlands. The annual average temperature in Reykjavik is 5 degrees celsius, and I think in December it rarely drops below minus one. Summers are warm- but the permafrost prevents a lot of agricultural activity all year round.

As a famous philosopher once said- Iceland's green and Greenland's icy :)

Even so, a lot colder even then Norway orSweeden, for example.
And it took this huge economic crysis to bring Iceland down a bit, but they are recovering quite fast. That should prove how hardy and economicly sound the icelandic people and nation are (and all germanic nationalities as well)...I would be proud of that, were I an icelander...my country has every posibility you can imagine, yet we will never match Iceland in terms of good social athmosphere and high standards of living. I won't go into more detail then that.
