whats on your wishlist for a lazytown reboot?

if lazytown were to have a reboot or a new show what are some things you guys would want to see? characters, themes, episode topics, general changes, etc.

I've seen a lot of people talk about how they want topics around mental health to be covered, i think thats a great idea!
id also really love if they had a character who was physically disabled in some way, or at the very least had multiple episodes on different disabilities that could highlight how things like health and fitness can look different for some people.
aside from those things, id like to see penny and jives be brought back into the series! i know they were probably cut due to their similarities to other characters. but i really liked them, and i think there's still room for them in the franchise.

i want to know what ideas you guys have!

If I'm being honest I don't want a reboot. Well at least a live action reboot. Id like to see an animated series.

But I think what'd have been cool is if there was a spinoff series focusing on Stephanie as a superhero.

Also an episode of LazyTown talking about mental health sounds like something that would air on TeenNick/ The N and I'm all for it!

A reboot would be okay if it's in the season 2 or 3 style where there was a balance between slow and fast scenes. Season 1 has many slow scenes which not work these days and season 4 has too many fast scenes and effects which was quite unrealistic. Stefán Karl never liked the season 4. He was a theater man and performed best in slow scenes like season 1, Magnús said season 4 was the best season they ever made. Season 2 and 3 would be a good balance. In the end it's all up to the director.

I said a few times before that the message of LazyTown: Moving, eating Sportscandy and vegetables, living healthy lifestyle etc, came out well in season 1, less in the next seasons and was lost for a big part in season 4. I would like to see that the message is the guideline in the stories again. Maybe they can use many of the written episode scripts from season 1 that were never made into an episode.

They should keep the characters like it was, with some guest performances. Many were talking about Penny (added as a bonus character by the bank that sponsored the first play) and Jives (who was green for the most part and that doesn't work well with green screen - not sure if that was the reason though) should come back, but that is so long ago. They don't fit anymore. If they want to add more characters than they should find the balance between girls and boys which was a bit off in favor of boys.

I don't like cartoons much so I prefer not to have LazyTown shaped into this sort of medium.
Magnús: - I have fans of all ages and I don't think it's weird when older people like LazyTown. LazyTown appeals to people for many different reasons: dancing, acrobatics, etc.

I think an animated show is more likely than more live-action stuff. AFAIK live-action LazyTown was very expensive to produce but an animated series would take a fraction of the cost. Thanks to (I think?) WB sitting on the franchise for a decade it's just not as big as it was a few years ago, and it might not be feasible to make another show with the same budgets as before. Besides saving a lot of money on sets, props, cameras, lights, etc, they also wouldn't have to deal with child actors ageing.

Apart from practical considerations. there are artistic benefits to going animated. A lot of the scenes involving the puppets have been a bit weird in how they're shot or performed, because of the inherent limitations of puppets. They get around some of those with the full-body puppet shots, but in an animated series all characters could give performances without the constraints of puppeteers that can't move around freely, and be visible on screen at any angle or distance that best shows that performance. I wouldn't be surprised if they had to scrap some story ideas because they just couldn't be done with puppets.

To me, the main benefit is that more characters and locations could be added without needing to build puppets, sets, and props, so the town could actually feel like more than 10 people live there, and this opens up more plot options as well.

This is what I would like to see: Give us a bustling town with people going about their lives. I want episodes involving the mailman or the baker, or that take place in the toy store or the library. Show he who teaches the school or collects the garbage or runs the ice cream stand when Robbie isn't doing it in disguise. We could get actual crowds of townspeople at events like the Sportacular Spectacle Day, or the LazyTown Derby.

Another completely unrelated thing I'd like is for Robbie to get a lackey or henchman. It's always a bit awkward to have him talking to himself. and those episodes where he has people to boss around are pretty fun. A regular character to interact with would make it a bit more natural when he explains his evil plans, and open up some comedy opportunities as well. Have his nephew come live with him or something. A sarcastic teenager who thinks everything Robbie does is lame but helps him anyway, for example.

Apart from the TV show I'd like to see a video game. A cozy game like Animal Crossing, where you just play games with the kids, help Sportacus with heroics or exercise, dance with Stephanie, and help people around town. All motion controlled like Just Dance.

An animated series would also be good because some of the characters are unreplaceable in the way they act. But I've seen some VOICE actors perfectly imitating the characters. An animated series would also be a good way for Magnus to make something LazyTown related without risking an injury.

If they really want they can do a mix of both, animation and live action. With the start of the episode being in live action in Stephanie’s room. Where she reads her diary and introduces herself. After that she talks about what happened in LazyTown on that day in a short description. Which fades into her diary that turns into an animated version re-enactment of that same day. Kind of like Stephanie is telling a story in a way

Cartoons are fun for older kids and teens to relax and have fun. For us. But it won’t get the message across where I was talking about. Moving, eating Sportscandy and vegetables, living healthy lifestyle etc. Especially for younger kids. In order to give them this message, like running and eating an apple, there has to be a real life role model that kids can relate to. Because that’s very hard to do in a drawn form. I think you can imagine that for yourself, have you ever wanted to be that someone in the cartoon you used to watch? Have you imitated someone or someone's behavior in that cartoon? I don't think so.

I just don't think cartoon would work.

Sometimes I remind myself of Ren Hoek if that counts.

You make a fair point, but, Nick. Jr aired 7 shows that were animated from 2004-2007 and they were pretty popular with the audience, and a lot of the messages got across pretty well..

Also with this logic then the LazyTown flash games are crap because they don't have real humans in them.

Idk, it’s hella hard to find the exact doppelganger for Robbie or even Sportacus (if Magnus gets injury or can’t play the role for odd reason). But, if you find the perfect group of people who can voice act so perfectly (it’s way easier than getting doppelganger live actors let me tell you that). Then it can make it up to be a great version of the same show (though not as great as the older version). There’s shows like Clifford the big red dog, which made kids help with animals. Angelina ballerina inspired girls to do ballet or other dances. Max and Ruby is about caring for your siblings and sharing. In this modern generation, the annoying Bluey is teaching kids how to live life and have fun with family and friends. Which all had a great big influence on the children who watched these animated shows. So, animated isn’t that bad at all unless it has crappy voice actors and crappy storylines

Honestly, if they did find a random person to do Robbie Rotten in live action. They have to have the voice duh… And be insanely good at slapstick. Like any actor that uses really good slapstick is rememberable and that’s what Stefan Karl did

Some have a good message but I wonder if those stick with children. I can imagine that the more realistic cartoons like Angelina ballerina and Frozen, with Elsa and Anna, could have an impact on children. We didn't have those 3D cartoons in my time when I grew up so I don't know, and I can't remember having a cartoon that had an impact on me. Frozen was popular amongst children though, mostly girls and only for the clothes, supported by the musicals. Maybe because of that Frozen was a big hit, the musicals were great entertainment for the kids. If only they had a good message instead of stereotyping girls and boys then it would be helpful for kids. LazyTown should have something like that again, musicals and live shows, which supports whatever is shown on TV, and then a cartoon, 3D or not, could work. I remember how popular the live shows were.

Chloe as Stephanie with girls dressed as Frozen

IDK, I definitely wanted to be Batman, or Darkwing Duck, or Teddy Ruxpin :p

But I do get your point, and I think it's also why they went for live action in the first place. They could have gone animated from the start but they opted against that, likely for exactly the reason you mentioned. I think if they can get the budget for more live action episodes, that's what they'll go for. I'm also not sure if I would have even liked LazyTown if it had been animated. The actors and the puppets have a charm and spontaneous interactions that might not be there in a cartoon.

But one downside of live action is that the town feels like a bit of a ghost town sometimes. When I LazyTown that with other fictional towns, like the those from the Smurfs or Asterix, I feel like we're missing out on a lot of potential characters.

Yippee, I also want to speak out. As many of you said, I am also more for the cartoon series than for the series with actors. Perhaps for me personally it is more catchy. I remember that as a child I did not like shows with people. I think cartoons attract children more
+ I would be sincerely sad to see someone other than Stefan and Magnus in the roles of Robbie and Sportacus :(
And as LazyPooky said, I think children REALLY want to be like cartoons! Personally, my friends and I always took cartoon characters as role models.

I agree that it would be cool to touch on both physical and mental health in the show. I agree that I would like to see characters with disabilities and special needs, I think LazyTown would do a great job of teaching children how to behave with such people!

And I agree with moomoo GIVE US A LIVING TOWN! Because I was always scared of how empty the town was...with animation, the people in the background would seem appropriate. Honestly, I was terribly afraid of the emptiness of the town in the show.
And I think I like that Robbie doesn't have any henchmen because he's like an evil villain and he doesn't need anyone! I like his awkward interactions with himself, it's obvious that he's lonely and that's what I love about him. But hey I still like your idea! (It reminded me of my friend who made something like this alternate universe hee hee)
AND OH MY GOD THIS GAME IDEA SOUNDS AMAZING! Now that's what I dream about... Seriously, no kidding, I can't stop thinking about it...

I also think if there was a cartoon or TV series, maybe we would see non-standard versions of the characters because with each reboot, the character designs changed. I like the idea of an adult Stephanie superhero! It sounds really cute and logical! And I would also like to see the characters grow up, wouldn't that be cool?
But I also don't deny that due to the popularity of the show, the characters would remain the same as they were in the show

I also have the idea that at the beginning, end or middle of the series there would be a moment where Sportacus (or any other character) would do some exercise, I think it would motivate children to do sport not "sometime" but right now in front of the TV with their favorite characters! (damn, I would like it now, I'm looking at it from the perspective of a person with depression who forced himself to lift his legs when playing a flash game about LazyTown and finally start brushing his teeth...)

Oh, I've said a lot, but I'm sure I have a lot more thoughts that I forgot to write down! But it was fun because I periodically think about the animated series LazyTown, I'm glad that I can share my thoughts with you

And I wish you all a good day!
