Magnus acquired LazyTown for about 8% of the sale price to Warner

LZT Holding ehf.'s 2024 financial statements show that the company purchased assets related to LazyTown from Warner Bros. for ISK 230 million -- USD 1.7 million or EUR 1.55 million -- last year. With the purchase, the company acquires all rights to the LazyTown series.

Warner had owned the rights since 2011 when Turner Broadcasting bought LazyTown for nearly ISK 2800 million -- USD 25.6 million or EUR 19.2 million

Magnús said in an interview with Morgunblaðið in May 2025 that he had long wanted to regain LazyTown, but initially the price was far too high.

Based on the 2011 sale price, Magnús buys LazyTown back for about 8.2% of the price Warner Bros. paid in 2011. In other words, the price was now over 91% lower than then.

If the purchase price in 2011 is calculated at present value, it is equivalent to about ISK 4800 million, and Magnús accordingly paid about 4.8% of the 2011 sale price.

To finance the purchase, the company provided new share capital in the amount of ISK 230.5 million and also took out a loan from its owners. According to the loan agreement, the loan amount was ISK 70 million. By year-end 2024, the company had drawn down ISK 30 million on the loan.

Magnús: - I have fans of all ages and I don't think it's weird when older people like LazyTown. LazyTown appeals to people for many different reasons: dancing, acrobatics, etc.
