Sports candy under the LazyTown brand is expected to hit stores at the end of April 2025, and will be sold in all Bónus and Hagkaup stores. “We decided to act immediately when we heard that the Director of Health recently called for a larger proportion of vegetables and fruit in children’s diets. Alma Möller, Minister of Health, was of the same mind and spoke about the need to make the healthy option the easiest option,” says Pétur Sigurðsson, assistant to the Bónus executive board and project manager of a project being worked on in collaboration with Hagkaup, Banana and LazyTown. “We found a solution that makes vegetables and fruit an exciting and easy option, as the Minister of Health called for. We are going to produce a new product line under the LazyTown brand,” says Magnús Scheving, owner of LazyTown. It should be noted that LazyTown is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
LazyTown launched a similar campaign 30 years ago
“There is a lack of products that promote a healthy diet for children. LazyTown launched a similar campaign 30 years ago, which resulted in a 22% increase in children’s vegetable and fruit consumption. We believe that by offering healthy food products in an interesting and fun way, children will choose vegetables and fruit more often,” says Magnús.
Pétur Smári Sigurgeirsson, Banana’s sales manager, says that they wanted to act quickly: “We wanted to act quickly and offer families with children healthy products in a fun way,” he says. “Food manufacturers and retailers have a great responsibility for the product range of stores, and we do not shy away from it,” says Pétur Smári.

The result of the collaboration was to produce sports candy under the LazyTown brand. The products will be manufactured by Bónin and sold in Hagkaup and Bónus stores. “Vegetables, fruits, dairy products and other types of food will be in specially labeled packaging, and special attention is being paid to making sports snacks a more exciting alternative to sweets and other unhealthy options. The packaging is handy and contains portions that are suitable for children,” they say.
Eva Laufey Kjaran, Hagkaup’s marketing manager, says the products fit well with Hagkaup’s strategy: “Hagkaup has placed great emphasis on offering healthy options for its customers and has offered a very good selection of healthy and fresh foods. Selling specially labeled healthy products for children under the LazyTown brand is a welcome addition,” says Eva Laufey.
Want to encourage families to exercise more
“We are not going to stop here. We want to encourage families to exercise while choosing healthy food. By creating events that appeal to families with children, we hope to increase children’s interest in exercise and at the same time make it easier for parents to encourage them to do things,” says Pétur Sigurðsson, Deputy Managing Director of Bónus and project manager of the project.
Health events are planned to promote exercise among families with children. The events are suitable for the whole family and encourage families to participate while at the same time promoting exercise and a healthy diet. The sports snack is expected to be in stores at the end of April and will be sold in all Bónus and Hagkaup stores.
