    Video quality frames

Hmm odd. The HBOMax ep seems the worst quality of the three.

Could this be because of using Media Player Classic to export the frame? The NBC Kids one on the right was probably exported with VirtualDubMod. It is a JPEG yet looks better than the other two. HBOMax looks the worst. Look at her eyes.

From what I remember one of the sources was captured pre syndication transmission compression.
Pretty sure it was the NBC kids one.

For example, NBC will transmit the best quality out to syndicated antennas (NBC kids being one that will pickup that transmission). From there, those syndicated
antennas will add compression sending that signal to the local stations.

In HBOmax's case, the source file is being compressed to save on bandwidth.
      Usually, the compression is meh.

I don't know where that thread is when Xizer uploaded those NBC kids files but we discussed all that
      in that thread.

Pooky said the HBOMax ones were the best video quality found so far but it doesn't look like it to me. At least with this sample.

Unfortunately, I don't have an HBOMax file. I remember in that NBC kids thread I also did a comparison of the NBC one vs the iTunes files which
showed up shortly after and are the ones I kept. It was a very slight downgrade but not having to deal with watermarks it was a fair trade off.

Thought the NBC ones were bigger

A TS file, short for Transport Stream, is a standard format for transmitting and storing audio, video, and data. This format is widely utilized in broadcast systems such as DVB and ATSC because it maintains quality while being streamed or transmitted over unreliable media.

The HBOMax files are on the new GetLazy Media site.

          https://video.getlazymedia.com/categ...rate-24?page=1

I don't have more than a handful of the NBC ones unfortunately.

What are the "LazyTown S01E01 [1080p] [HEVC].mkv" type ones? They say Kidstream. Are those the iTunes ones? I have one that has "[HEVC]" in the title and the other ones don't.

I will try reproduce and share the results.

I compared the HBOmax episodes with the best quality of the NON-logo episodes we had at the time. HBOmax was better. But comparing that specific frame from different episodes, I see some frames are sharper in the front and some in the back. When compare to NBC you see that NBC episodes are superior. Looks like a case of contrast too.

              hbo-25-015285 (10Mbps - original)

                Moved it to here.

Weird thing is that when extracting frames with ffmpeg, some are darker, more contrast, slightly different color. While extracting with VLC or MPC the frames of the different episodes look the same. Not sure now what to use to have good frame extracts. I don't see any difference when using MediaInfo either, it's all the same with this info:

                Color space : YUV
                Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0
                Bit depth : 8 bits
Must be a problem with ffpmeg or a hidden color setting.

I no longer have the NBC Kids episode 1 unfortunately, not sure what happened to it. I just have the screenshot I took. So I can't take the screenshot again using today's software. I am not sure what I took it with because it seems VirtualDubMod, which is what I always used for screencaps and gifs back in the day, can't handle HD files.

Here is a PNG file of the same frame from the NBC Kids using whatever I used back then lol.

In my previous post I added this exact screenshot of the NBC episode as attachment. Will add the episodes later for download if you want them. Seems those are pretty HQ after all. Too bad of the logo though.

I haven't had time to compare all the shots in your attachment yet.

Do you have all of the NBC eps? I only have 15 of them. Can't figure out what happened to Episode 1. Very odd. I wonder if I got that screenshot from BJ.

                      Yeah the logo is annoying.

HBOmax appears to have a softer image.
