Banned from TikTok for the LazyTown US Community

TikTok is not only banned in America and Canada (I guess it depends where you live in Canada) but it’s banned in Australia too. Capcut isn’t banned yet here in Australia so small creators can do whatever they want (Capcut is owned by the same company btw)

Edit: it’s not banned in Australia I had an error when searching

Even this forum is part of social media.

TikTok is banned in the US for a different reason than some social media are banned in Australia. In the US, it is believed that the Chinese government is spying through TikTok and collecting all the personal data of US citizens. Which is a rather hypocritical statement considering Facebook, Google etc. do the same to non-Americans.

In Australia they care about the welfare of their children. What social media did they ban? and why not TikTok?

Magnús: - I have fans of all ages and I don't think it's weird when older people like LazyTown. LazyTown appeals to people for many different reasons: dancing, acrobatics, etc.

Exactly took the words out my mouth + the US gov has bigger problems

They're looking to ban all of them for under 16s

Australia is supposed to ban people under 16 by now. But nothing happened and I wouldn’t be surprised if they moved it to the end of this year or they moved on from the ban idea altogether. I think US government knows that the other social media platforms are in the US and it’s is easier to fined and track them down for whatever the reason is.

I don’t know the US government is more protective about other countries finding their identity through social media than protecting their own citizens from guns and wildfires 🤷‍♀️

Plus, now the Chinese companies have an app called rednote which has a bunch of the US users are using

This is an odd conversation. It's not hypocritical. China banned Facebook in 2009. Google left China in 2010 because the Chinese government wanted them to help spy on their own citizens.

Has nothing to do with the EU. China is constantly getting caught engaging in cyberattacks on the US and sponsoring hacking groups infiltrating US companies and network equipment. They are a geopolitical enemy. The EU is not a geopolitical enemy of the US. The EU can pass its own privacy laws if it wants to (and it has) which are much stricter than US laws protecting US citizens.

The law always had a one year implementation period, I cited to the law here and quoted it. It takes time to build an age verification system.

I should have added this ages ago but you can’t use a vpn for both tiktok and capcut because of something in the SIM card doesn’t allow it or something idk. The one thing that probably sucks the most about the ban for the US is that smaller or newer creators can’t use Capcut for editing their videos (which Capcut is way easier to use then adobe in my opinion and you don’t have to sign up to use it too)

TikTok is garbage and brain rot personified. I am glad it is banned. Someone I know used to just watch it all day and realizes it was just wasted time. They had sent me a few to watch and I was always irritated by the rushed style of the little videos, seemed like youtube for very impatient people. Sounded like one of those fast talking auctioneers. Similar to youtube it was often people stating "facts" which may or may not have been true.

I dunno, if I was in the psychology field, be it a new student, teaching professor handing out course studies or a seasoned professional, I'd be pretty enraged right now.
Government just wiped out generations worth of mental illness studies. Whenever someone would ask the question, why won't aliens make contact with us?
My answer would always be, go to Tik Tok and it'll all become clear.

Of course it is hypocritical if the reason for the ban is that it spies while the platforms in your own country do this too. Worldwide. The fact that the EU has now introduced stricter laws is of course to protect its own citizens against the policies of these platforms, but the rest of the world does not benefit from this. It shows once again how clear it is, now that they are increasingly interfering in politics, Musk, Zuckerberg, Bezos, so that politics can impose economic sanctions if the stricter laws are enforced or become even stricter. The USA is slowly starting to look a bit like China in that aspect.

Not sure if Australia have second thoughts because of the possibility of having economic sanctions if they ban social media platforms. it depends on how much they export/import from there.

Nice point of view. I bet there are plenty of problems in society that can be studied psychologically. The LazyTown hardcore fans group would be a good study project challenge I would say. 😄
