    My view of AI (10)

IDK if his has been shared in these threads but I came across it recently when someone claimed AGI is coming maybe as soon as next year or 2040 at the latest. Suffice it to say I'm skeptical.

    The Intelligence Stack:
    1. Computation/Memory (Where AI excels): Raw processing power. The ability to store and recall vast amounts of information. This is what LLMs are built on.
    2. Pattern Matching/Recognition (Where AI is strong): Identifying patterns in data, from language syntax to visual objects.
    3. Abstract Reasoning (Where AI struggles): Applying knowledge to novel situations. True problem-solving. This is the focus of benchmarks like ARC-AGI, where the best models still only score around 55%, while humans are near-perfect.
    4. Causal & Counterfactual Reasoning (Where AI fails): Understanding cause and effect. Asking “what if?” This is the foundation of scientific thought and strategic planning.
    5. Embodied Cognition (The Missing Link): Learning and reasoning through physical interaction with the world. An AI that has never felt the heat of a fire cannot truly understand the concept of danger.
    6. Social/Emotional Intelligence (The Final Frontier): Navigating complex social dynamics, understanding unspoken rules, empathy, and building trust.

We’re pouring billions into making Layer 1 and 2 bigger and faster. But AGI won’t be born from a larger dataset. It will emerge from a breakthrough in layers 3 through 6. Until we shift our focus from mimicry to mind, we’re just building a more sophisticated parrot.

The article is almost a year old but I doubt AGI really is just around the corner.

We are at the foundation of AI evolution. Nature on Earth has needed millions of years to develop through all the steps. I hope AI will do it a little faster.

For layer 5 and 6 we need a hologram !

Magnús: - I have fans of all ages and I don't think it's weird when older people like LazyTown. LazyTown appeals to people for many different reasons: dancing, acrobatics, etc.

I hope it isn't, it should be illegal.

A few articles to read, I guess. Hope it's not blocked for any of you guys.

God, I hate Meta, Microsoft and all the other tech companies. Also people who think this kind of AI is in anyway good or productive.

Man, AI and the companies/idiots forcing it are the ****ing worst and it's ruining everything good left on this hellscape of a planet. I hope supreme leader Trump drops a nuke and kills almost everyone so fallout happens. At least then I could meet Marcus or Paladin Danse or Veronica or Harold or Boone or Porter Gage or literally anyone else. But alas, we are living in the in the most boring dystopia, which makes it the worst

Yes as Stephanie noted in Easy Way, making things easier does not always lead to good outcomes. And AI makes a lot of bad things much too easy.

I like to hope that people will become more skeptical of what they see online, and these fake porn pictures and new stories will lose their punch. But so far the stupidity level seems as high as ever. I guess this should not surprise me, since even before AI, people were circulating fake news and lies/disinformation/conspiracy theories on the internet for many years and people never seemed to get any smarter.

In the past year I've had 3 different people recommend videos to me that they did not realize were AI slop filled with made-up information.

Misinformation chain e-mails have been around for decades, they haven't made people more skeptical in the slightest. I wouldn't get my hopes up that it will be different with AI.

A lot of these scams also focus on the vulnerable - lonely people looking for love, or older people not comfortable with technology or just suffering mental decline. The criminals are often in another, relatively lawless country and can't be held accountable by the authorities in the country where the victim is.

But yeah unfortunately it seems the general stupidity level has increased, if anything. I think it's worse in fact because so many people get their "news" and other information from unreliable sources like social media "influencers" instead of vetted professional journalistic organizations.

Yeah, I wish I could hope people become more skeptical, but I really don't think it'll happen. We're all still the stupid blindly-trusting people that humanity has always been, it's just worse now that creating/spreading false information is easier then ever - not to mention it's harder to split truth and lies

I feel like we wouldn't be here if everyone just listened to Stephanie in "Remote Control". Wise beyond her years, I tell ya!

Fairy-Possum you have heard Easy Way right? I take things for granted from the old days, but it was never officially released so I don't know if current fans have all heard it.

Here is a fan made video for it.

Never heard it in full, but I knew it as one of the few songs sampled/interpolated from GGIL ("Megabæt"), although "Gizmo Guy" does that, too. I'll be honest, I prefer the GGIL originals lol. Megabæt is a BOP!

This one? I don't hear any female singing. Say, what is she doing with her left hand anyway?

I always thought she was pretend surfing/hoola dancing, but now that you mention it.....

Looks like generated with AI but those were drawn in 3D in 1999, probably with some computer intelligence software..

Are they supposed to be kids in the Latibær plays? The footage I saw made them all look like adult actors and at least some of the characters seemed like adults.
