    On 23 July, 2026 we tracked more commercial flights than on any previous day in our history.

    It's always good to keep in mind that due to things like population growth and inflation, nominal numbers will always break records day after month after year, simply because there are more people/money is inflated. So there will always be constant record years for everything in terms of people doing things or amount of money spent/borrowed.

    As far as flights in particular, I think the ongoing concentration of wealth has a lot to do with it. People without a lot of money don't tend to fly very much. The higher up the wealth chain you go, the more often people fly. So as the top 20% gets richer and everyone else gets poorer, you have more people who will fly a lot, and you are losing people who didn't fly much anyway so sinking a level doesn't really reduce their flying.
