[*]It doesn't matter how good you are at traditional art, digital art is a new concept and you'll be starting at zero. This happens to everyone and it doesn't discount your other artistic abilities[*]Constructive critique is your best friend and will be as long as you pursue art. Make sure you can handle others telling you what you can improve at[*]Know the difference between critiques and bullying. Bullying is never helpful and will weigh on you, whether you realise it or not[*]You don't need expensive equipment to make good art. It all comes down to skill, high quality materials simply gives more variety[*]Look at other art from all mediums, time periods and styles. You could use a YouTube tutorial, that's what I used when I was your age. Or if you got lucky, you could ask your teacher if they know how to draw (In primary school I used to get the teachers who loved doing art, crafts and performances stuff like dance).

Plus, I can draw cartoony clowns better than people 😭. I mean look at my art on deviantart it’s bad like horrible bad 💀 (btw I always look down at myself as bad drawer so don’t mind that lol)

Sure! I've used them tons of tutorials. But none of my teachers are really arty.

The second drawing is a bit of messing around with colours and blending modes to get a kinda "birthday lighting" vibe. I chose pastel yellow for soft light, pink for pin light, lavender for overlay and cyan for saturation since I often see those colours in party decor. I think it came out nicely

Also, when looking for references, I noticed that official art gives Robbie brown eyes even though he has blue/grey eyes??? Has anyone else noticed? Anywhos.. or as Robbie would say: "Whatever."

Happy to announce that I'm posting in this thread again! It's been... over a year since I last posted here? Damn, I really haven't drawn enough LT, huh.


This time I did a drawing of pre-show, pre-stageplay Nenni, specifically the 3rd book "Latibær í vandræðum", more specifically this ink, with colours from this full watercolour (eye colour is absent in this, so I borrowed his eye colour from post-show illustrations). I'll be honest, I haven't read any of the pre-show, pre-stageplay books, mostly because I don't know if a full English translation exists for any of them. I would imagine it does, I just haven't searched for it.

I've been inspired to draw the first linked ink since I first saw it awhile back, but never got around to it, for various reasons. Recently, I've been wanting to practice my inking/line skills since I feel like I've gotten too comfortable with drawing simple sketches, and I like to try new things/experiment, artistically speaking. So whilst trying to find something to draw for ink/line practice, I remembered that I wanted to draw that first ink of Nenni and decided to finally do it. There are a few areas where I think the ink/line is little too thick, but it still came out good, considering the fact that I haven't done any inking/line for at least a few months.

To answer the possible question of "why that particular ink, possum?", it's simply this: I think it's very charming. When I first saw it, I couldn't help but notice how full of character it was and it's stuck with me. It's also intriguing to me: why does Nenni have paint cans? Why so many? Why does he look peeved? I would obviously know if I read the book, but site paragraph one. And besides, it's more fun to imagine!

I'm hoping to draw/post more LT art moving forwards. I've had some BIG ideas rattling around my brain for some time now, like doing a draw-over of a screenshot from each episode, as well as an concept I've had since early 2024 that I want to keep a surprise 😉. The former is less likely to happen, due to sheer scale, but the ladder is definitely happening and I've already started it. I'm not sure whether to post progress or wait until it's 100% complete, but I can decide when the time comes.... or you lot can just tell me which you prefer!

I do like the inks and watercolours done by Halldór Baldursson, cute and well stylised. But I also like my version more then I was expecting, and the more I look at it the more I like it. If I had to choose, I would probably pick the Baldursson one, only because if I choose mine, it would be so egotistical it would make Stingy look humble lolol.

Although, now I've compared them both, a part of me wonders if mine having colour and full rendering gives it a better advantage in your eyes, so speaking. Especially since Baldursson has more confident inking skills...hmm. That's what I think anyways. Maybe you think differently, chuft?

I still like yours better. I tend to like realistic art more than cartooney stuff. In that top pic it looks like the paint cans could not possibly stay in that position, are they supposed to be falling over? And it looks like he has no brain, just a giant wide jaw. It's strange looking. Yours looks like a real person in a real scene.

Not one for exaggerated features, I presume? Then again, art is subjective. Personally, I try to keep anatomy realistic, if somewhat simplified. I don't think I have the extensive knowledge to bend, squish and stretch body parts lol

The two plays and the three books were translated a long time ago by a native Icelander and adapted into good english by an native english speaker.
