Okay, I'm back, and not too soon. For that secret 2024 project I mentioned (which I've nicknamed "Project 20"), I've been looking through all the designs for the LT kids and thought it was fun, so I also went through Sportaflops designs and iterations too. It seems to me that his character design went through three distinct phases: books/รL, GGรญL/CGI/WIT puppets, then show. The transition between the first two phases is interesting, but I wanted to talk about the transition between phase two and three. Specifically referring to these two designs: the unaired pilot and this mysterious preshow design. They're less their own designs and more like concepts of a hybrid between Latibรฆr and LazyTown (especially the first picture), hence me calling them "transitions".

I know that's a lot of blabbering and may not make sense to the majority of you reading, but what I'm trying to say is that these designs are kinda oddballs, and you can clearly see the introduction and removal of certain design elements throughout the pitching for the show. I find it very interesting.... so, I decided to draw it lol.

I also decided to turn this into an opportunity to share my artistic process, in this case, for a rendered simple background sketch. This doesn't include my process for complex backgrounds (like the background in my last drawing I shared), nor inking. So: begin!

Step 1: Rough sketch: This is when I roughly position everything. The pose, perspective etc. (that's what the lines are). Those dots you see are to aid in drawing folds in fabric/where the fabric pinches.

Step 2: Clean/shade sketch: Tracing over the rough sketch to make a cleaner sketch. This is when I fix up any anatomy mistakes, add proper folds on the clothes etc. I also plot out approximately where the shade will be on a new layer.

Step 3: Colour/shade prepping: Filling in the clean sketch with grey and applying alpha lock for easier colouring in. I also trace the shade sketch with a darker grey on a new layer, clean it up to complete it and clip it to the colour.

Step 4: Colour finishing: I directly eyedropped the first image I shared here for reference. Fill in the grey with the colours eyedropped.

Step 5: Shade finishing: Alpha lock and fill using the base colour, but 10% higher saturation and 10% lower lightness on the HSL scale. Finishing by lowering the layer opacity and turning the layer from "normal" to "multiply" mode.

Step 6: Light prepping: Applying light using white on a new, clipped layer.

Step 7: Light finishing: Alpha lock and fill using the base colour, but 10% lower saturation and 10% higher lightness on the HSL scale (opposite to shade). Finishing by lowering the layer opacity and turning the layer from "normal" to "add" mode. I also added the glass to the goggles on a new layer.

Step 8: Small details: Adding sparkles to the metal ridges and glass on the goggle to make it pop, as well as a signature. All on a new layer.

Step 9/Finish: Simple background: On a new layer. Background is complimentary to the most prominent colour on the subject (in this case, blue against yellow). Add a blur frame filter at 6% strength, 20% higher saturation and 20% lower lightness on the HSL scale. Add a small oval at the feet.

It's more complicated than that and, like I said earlier, different depending on what kind of drawing I'm doing. But I can't be bothered sharing every detail lol. I hope you lot enjoy! I had a lot of fun with this one . Also, I'm well aware that some of the terminology I used may not make sense. If you're unsure of anything I said, don't hesitate to ask!

ALSO, if you have LazyTown fanart you drew yourself, or you see someone else's fanart you wanted to share (WITH CREDIT!), feel free to share here. I know this thread is called "Fairy Possum's LazyTown art", but I want to be treated as a "community gallery" of sorts. I'd love to see any art you all have to share, if any <3

Beautiful drawing, I wish I could draw like that, but unfortunately I have to disappoint you, no drawing by me.

I like the combination of Latibaer with an old-Lazytown blue background.

Thank you. You could draw like me, you'd just have to spend the better half of a decade to get there lol. Never too late to start drawing

As for the background, I didn't actually mean for it to be the old blue, it's just the complimentary colour to the yellow. I don't know why, but complimentary colours always look pleasant together, like green-purple, or red-blue

Glad to see that you think I'm talented haha. I was going to post the timelapse video here, but the file size was too large
