    First art style imitation attempt

I have a few sketch pages so I wanted to try drawing in the same art style and I think my first sketches turned out okay. It's just Stephanie's faces copied though. Feedback would be great.

Did you trace? If you did it freehand that is mighty impressive. They are almost identical to you reference sketches, so the only feedback I can give is great job!

Drawing is something I'd really like to learn to do. I used to do more art when I was younger, but it's been crowded out by other hobbies (and work and general laziness). Someday I will make a concerted effort to practice it.

Do you have any other art you'd like to share? I'd be curious to see something original.

Thank you! I didn't trace, I just closely referenced it and tried my best to get it one to one. The other art I draw is mostly made up of furry art and fan art of other things. The pony one in particular is another style imitation of another artist called "Misterdavey". I'm also an animator. You should definitely try picking up art again!

I'm not into furry at all, but I can appreciate the art--and your OC is actually really cool.

I love this piece. Is the layout based on something? Looks like an album cover or something.

I imagine with digital art you could include assets from other images you'd drawn to save time, or did you draw this all fresh? Either way it represents a huge effort.

Thank you. This drawing in particular was inspired by "Goldfinger - Superman". It wasn't really meant to look like an album cover. It's entirely drawn fresh- the character's (all of which are mine actually!) line art alone took me 3 days and the coloring another 3 and I did the shading in 2. It was very tedious but I'm pretty proud of that one. I only ever "reuse" assets if I can trace my own art for something like shoes, which is very rare.

Now I understand how you could get such a perfect result while freehanding. You're clearly very experienced.

Any advice for a beginner if I were to learn to draw? I would ask what equipment/software you use, but I've learned that in every discipline, whether it be photography, cycling, shooting, cooking, or gaming, the equipment make almost no difference compared to the experience and skill of the person. How would you go about it if you were to learn to draw all over again?

You're very right in that-- You can draw with pretty much anything. I personally use clip studio paint and a huion GT-221 screen tablet (which are on the more expensive side, so not exactly beginner suitable). I would recommend using fire alpaca if you intent to draw digital. It is a free program I used when I got my first wacom tablet.

Skill is something you acquire over a long period of time,, I can't really place how I'd go about learning to draw all over again. Back when I started I just copied what I saw and eventually learned how to make it original and distinct- but that's just what children do and how they learn, I was 9 :'). The most advice I can give is to just do it, you learn everything you have to know through trial and error and that's probably how I'd do it, since a lot of my work flow is trial and error. Giving up because you think it looks bad is the worst thing you can do.

I was afraid it would be that simple (: Thanks for the advice.

If you end up doing anymore LT stuff you should post it here!

I did some more today, I tried drawing bodies this time. I wrote down some notes about the style as well, just for study.

Well done! The bodies didn't give you any trouble. I would like to see everybody on the forum try to draw Stephanie, or their other favorite character. It would be fun even though the rest of us would probably be terrible.

Wow your art is so amazing, man I wish I was that good at drawing. I guess practice makes perfect

That's really great indeed. I like this Stephanie, and most of the other drawn characters as well from back then. I don't know if you draw the other characters too, you can make a cartoon we've all been waiting for.

Thanks. I actually am studying and practicing this art style specifically for an animation I want to make.

Okay, this is probably the best i can do. I drew an expression and pose that i don't have a reference for to challenge myself. I think it turned out pretty well. I did better on the shoes than i thought i would :p

I've never seen that expression on Stephanie's face in that art form before, or even in the TV series. On one hand it looks a bit unnatural and on the other hand it's quite iconic and funny.
