    Gerry Anderson

I'm a big fan of puppetry, one of the many reasons I love Lazytown.

Any Gerry Anderson fans out there ? For you younger folks, do you know who Gerry Anderson is ?

He is one of my heroes, and has done so much for the medium of puppetry on TV. He made puppetry into an art form that could be appreciated by adults as well as children. A list of his shows can be found at: http://www.fanderson.org.uk/prodguides/prodind.html

My all-time favorite is Terrahawks. It was so camp.

Anyone else old enough here to share their Gerry Anderson memories ?

Well now I don't feel so old, somebody else here knows Gerry Anderson?
I absolutely love Space 1999. I watched it all the time, now I own the DVDs. I used to watch Thunderbirds when I got the chance, something about those puppets always creeped me out, but I couldn't help watching. Most of the other shows never really made it to TV when I could watch them. I think I've only seen a couple of episodes of Supercar.
UFO was another great show, Unfortunately I have never seen the whole series. I think Gabrielle Drake is HAWT!. I need to pick those up on DVD if they are out.

Now that I think about it, I think I've seen quite a bit of his work, I must be older than I thought.

I can't say I remember any of those shows... sorry :|
I'm around the same age as you, but here in the U of K I grew up with reruns of Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Joe 90, Stingray and Terrahawks.

I never watched any of them more than a few times, though.

Yeah, Gerry Anderson created Thunderbirds. Man, I'm so old, nobody here seems to know about him.

At least Lazytown is keeping the dream alive of puppets on TV....

Yeah, they're there, but they freak some people out (not me, but some). A search at TVtropes for Lazytown brings up the "Nightmare Fuel" and "Uncanny Valley" entries in addition to ones you'd expect like "Literal Genie", "Meaningful Name", and "Panty Shot".

And don't feel too old. I find myself shaking my head at the screen and thinking 'oh, you kids' in some threads 'round here.

WTF? they made a CGI version of Thunderbirds? Why did I never hear about this?

                  See this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNF5PXBAHkg

Did it ever actually air? Is there a DVD available?

Oh wow, that was fantastic. looks like the pilot never got off the ground.

I'm currently watching the CGI Captain Scarlet, I haven't warmed to it yet, but I was never a big fan of CS in the first place. This Thunderbird version looks good though, although I would lament the loss of the actual puppets.
