Wonder how long before the oil companies decide they will own the air.

    So much for Hydrogen cells.

    Also, that guy's a genius.
He's sitting in a van with an air-powered engine, and says it sounds like a steam boat (essentially an air-powered engine) and handles like a van.

It was made specially for... some talk show or other.
That's why you can hear a live audience in the background.

It was released as an extra on one of the DVDs (most likely Clerks X), but I can't think which right now.

EDIT: I just stuck my copy of CX in the player, and was greeted by a certain Mr. Smith telling me it was for Leno in 2001.

I remember a couple of years back they said they were going to sell these cars to Africans.

            Re: The Air Car

I thought this was fake when read it, but it turns out these compressed air engines have existed for awhile. Pretty cool, also incredibly inefficient from what I read. I hope that there is a way to make it more efficient so that it's possible to race them! This was a forum topic I found about this: http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=104225 (a lot of reading and links to check out, I just skimmed it after awhile).

Thanks for the video link, I never knew this stuff existed! Funny video, Ultra Magnus. :) What a mean guy!

Well even if they aren't efficient enough to race, they should be more than efficient for the mass population and they can keep using the old fashioned technology for the racing circuit. I'm sure green people would be more than happy if that was the trade off.

There's probably a lot we don't know but should that the oil companies bought up and put a squelch on them. Takes a real maverick not to be bought with that kind of money being waved in ones face for the good of mankind.

At least equal amounts of energy must be used to compress the air as it would take to power it in any other way, physics 101. All this car is doing is moving the pollution away from the exhaust system to a nearby power plant. (and the bill away from the owner of the car )

                  Re: The Air Car

That's true, Gaz. I didn't realize that. My dad has an air compressor at home, and it uses electricity to pump in air. Using what you say, Gaz, then that means if I get electricity from the coal burning plants, then I'm still contributing to the problem of air pollution. We need more alternate source of electricity. Scientists are working on them, there's the solar cell/paint thing they're working on (too expensive to make at the moment); which I heard about from a TV show called "Curious" which aired on one of the PBS stations over here. Pretty interesting, more research is needed.
