Just got back from the movies
Great blend of light humor and dark humor. There was enough light humor to attract general audiences, but it was mostly dark humor to attract real sickos like me.
The violence is a-plenty, but very realistic and non-gratuitous.
I love the boundries that this movie not only pushes, but ignores, with having a 12 year old curse, kill, and fairly graphically get her ass kicked.
Doubt the acadamy will have anything to say about the movie, but if you're looking for some good entertainment, you've come to the right place.
I know, I know: four months later, but, what the hell!
A friend of mine got the original DVD and insisted many times that I had to watch it. Because of my studies and (to be honest) because I really didn't care a movie preceded by such a free-non-sense violence, I had avoided the whole thing.
But now, on my vacation time, I couldn't hide myself any longer and I agreed to watch it with my friend at his home.
Surprisingly (even for me), I-LIKED-IT-VERY-MUCH!!
Yes, I confirmed my initial impression: it's a non-sense violence movie, but the mix of several elements (a really dark version of Batman, a very "light" parody of "The Sopranos", a good story, good performances from Nicolas Cage, Mark Strong and, specially, the super amazing acting work of that little girl, Chloë Grace Moretz, combined with a strange but seductive humor - dark or light, I really don't care) made me love it. I had to watch it again.
The film should be titled as "Hit-Girl", because she's who gave the main interest in the movie, but "Kick Ass" is more irreverent and commercial (I guess, ).
According what I read later about, the "Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall" has been announced to 2012: I hope watch it before the world be destroyed on Dec. 21th of that year, according to Mayas calendar, lol!
In short:
Movie: 8.9/10
Performances (grown up actors, Cage & Strong): 8.5/10
Performances (young actors): 7.5/10
Chloë Grace Moretz: 9.7/10
Humor: 8/10
Music score: 7.5/10
Didn't know that. I don't want to, but I'll probably end up seeing it.
Well, I do want see it, :)
Meanwhile, several old and recent (but lovely all of them) Chloe's videos:
