Hang on... they count children as under 18... then WHY THE HELL DO THEY MAKE US 16 AND 17 YEAR OLDS PAY ADULT PRICES FOR CLOTHES, TO GET INTO CINEMAS OR OTHER DAY TRIPS OUT?!
Many of us still don't have jobs to pay the extra money.Grammar Elf Alert!Comment

That's what I mean. Why can't they have clothes for older "children" in the children department with no VAT on, so we're not spending all our money trying to get something to wear, and somewhere to go.Grammar Elf Alert!Comment

Re: I'm So So Glad I don't Live in England
Well, even when things like this happen, I am glad I live in England. Although I'd like to say before I go on this rant that the whole issue with age of consent is VERY stupid. Being 16 or 17 is hard. I could go on about all the stupid reasons but I'm sure you all know about it anyway...
I would like to point out that even though I strongly oppose both the laws mentioned in this thread and don't think they should have been passed, even though I got really upset about them at first, there isn't actually as much cause for worry as it seems on a first glance. For a long time I've been a member of a forum based about self-published comics that branches out into commercial comics and illustration, and I've seen that law about child pornography discussed to absolute death and I don't believe it will be used to convict many people. It was created to close a loop hole in the law that allowed the tracing of real child porn to be distributed legally, and I have doubts that they would spend their time tracking down obscure cartoon pornography on the internet and engage in the very difficult porn vs. art debate, not to mention the stylistic issues that affect whether a character is a "child" or not to convict someone who wasn't obviously harming children... Perhaps I will be proved wrong about this, but for now I think all those pedophiles who are not actual child molesters are going to be fine. It's very hard to police the internet, which leads me onto the next point...
The Digital Economy Bill, it's a load of bollocks, obviously, not least because it was forced through before the election. But the chances are that no one will be affected for at least another year, most likely two, and in that time we will have a new government and a lot of time to show our opposition for it. And there is a LOT of opposition, lots of ISPs are against it and ones like TalkTalk even have a campaign against it. So for now I think that neither of these laws are the end of the world, if all goes well either their effects won't be as far-reaching as the headlines imply or they'll be revised more thoughtfully. If all doesn't go well, we may indeed be headed towards a very undesirable future for Britain... everyone fears lack of freedom, don't they? And people have been predicting for a lot time that something like that will happen. Like 1984. I just don't think we have to worry about it quite yet.
Unless the Tories get into power next month.Comment

Oh, I hadn't thought about that Rowan---that tracings of real child porn were allowed until now. Maybe it won't be so bad after all?
