    Death Penalty

I don't believe in organised government, so naturally I don't believe in the death penalty.

What is GL's opinion on it.

The reason I don't believe in it is, despite all the good that would come out of it, the government could kill some innocents. I'd rather let 100 cunts live than let the government kill one innocent.

I'm against it...If the government kills a murderer, it means that they are not better than him. Moreover, the death penalty has not prevented a single murder...the death penalty was actually imposed (at least in the U.S.) to prevent vigilantism of the whites against the blacks (especially in the southern states) and is based on pure desire for revenge...

      Re: Death Penalty

I don't agree with it. Too many mistakes can be made. However... there are some people who have recieved the death penalty in the past who perhaps actually deserve it, even though if it was my decision I would probably have given a different punishment. Overall though, if someone has done terrible things to others in their life it makes more sense to give them a very long and difficult sentence, surely. I do think some murderers deserve far more than what they get.

but that is what causes over crowding of prisons which is why people are getting shorter sentences now.
If the death penalty was used, over crowding wouldnt be as big a problem

firstly, I'm not trying to justify the death penalty im just raising a point.

say you shared a cell with many criminals. The cell holds 5 people. A 6th person comes in, so someone has to leave, back into society.

Now there is a criminal back in society because there are too many people in prison.

Buzz, you have your facts wrong. You mean to say that there was more crime in East Germany then now, considering the commies had the death penalty?
I am neutral to this. it's wrong to kill, but when someone threatens to kill everyone around...it's too complicated to just say yes or no.
Here's an interesting story, i'm sure some of you know it.
A father from Lithuania killed the rapists and killers of his baby daughter. The molesters were none other then his whife and some other creep. Then he ran away. he was found dead a few days ago. If the police would havecought him, he would have faced life inprisonment or worse. Do you thin he did the right thing?

I am against it as well. Not so much because I don't think anyone (including) the government SHOULD be able to kill people (I mean heck look at wars), but because sometimes death is an easy way out. I would rather die than sit in a cage just big enough to fit my body, having nothing to look at other than darkness and nothing to think about other than why I am here in the first place.

Obviously that's not how prisons work, but I don't see why it shouldn't be

                        Re: Death Penalty

                        Here's a nother point:

I kill someone, and I'm all smug about it. The familly of the murdered person is in pain. I just go to a nice comfy cell, where I will have the chance to kill others and do drugs and shit like that, all of them things I will enjoy because I'm a psicho, and bassicly I'll have a blast...the family of my victim still pays taxes to the state...so basicly, they support me in jail...when I come out (if I do), I'll just be more arrogant, more sick, more predisposed to kill or do something else highly illegal, simply because I can.

Sure many inmates change, especaily those that find a good priest/preacher/imam/whatever...

On a nother hand some argue that inmates are being treated too rough as it is, and that they should be treated much better, or even released...lol...

What some of you people don't realise is that many psichos simply don't feel any remorse or sadness over killing. They just feel arrogance and self-content when they have the power to kill someone. They will NEVER change. Do you honnestly mean to say that such an animal is worth feeding out of public money, while the fammily of his victims have lost they'r loved ones ?! If it would happen to you...how would you feel ?

Prison is meant to be a reeducation center...why try an reeducate the unneducable?

I know, I'm rough...but just think over what I poted here.

                          Re: Death Penalty

                          I am thinking about it.

If I recall correctly, the death penalty with all the appeals and court trials and tests actually costs more taxpayer money than a life sentence without the possibility of parole (in the United States, at least).

If it's true that a prisoner so convicted experiences no remorse, is there ever a way to truly punish them? To me, death isn't more punishing than life in a prison cell, given how humanely death injections are administered. We ain't talking death by firing squad, guillotine, stoning, bowel removal, gassing, immolation, starvation, dismembering while alive, blood-draining, tossing from a tall building, electrocution, asphyxiation, running over by a train, or launching into the sun.

On the other hand, I imagine I'd feel differently if my family and friends were murdered and the culprit was caught. I'd want retribution against someone who caused me so much pain. But in the restraints of our "justice" system and with the lack of remorse, I'm not sure that's possible.
I seriously need a new sig. Will try Photoshop later.

Yeah, the death penalty does actually seem less painful than life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. Plus you could get murdered in prison by inmates in a much worse fashion than capital punishment.

I think the best argument against the death penalty is, IF an innocent person was convicted and sent to prison - there's still a chance their innocence will be proven over time and they can simply be released and get compensation blah blah blah, but if they're sent to be executed it's an irreversible process.

This is true, and it is a very difficult issue to address. But there are other solutions to overcrowding than giving dangerous people more opportunity to be a threat. I just think that sentences should be given more thought, because some people who commit lesser crimes than something like murder get the same sentences on some occasions. There's a fine balance between what people deserve and what is feasable though, I recognise that.
