I think so, because your brain has to work harder to imagine scenery etc, rather than you just being presented with it.
Everyone is different, go with whatever form of learning and escapism that works for you.

          its not always easier

sometimes, the phone might ring and you have to get up and walk all the way across the room.
Or sometimes you need to go to the toilet, which is just so much hassle.

          yeaaaah.. think about it

            hahaha, yeah
Or, like me, you go to press pause but somehow end up at the beginning of the DVD again, lol.

And lo, the pause button shined its light upon the people. It's hard though, because watching movies is a more public activity than reading a book usually is. Only parents and children read to each other these days, but in a movie there's lots of people and they can't pause just for you.

But isn't the phone thing a problem with books too?
I seriously need a new sig. Will try Photoshop later.

Re: Reading stuff vs watching stuff

In short, I like movies and documentaries and YT vids (and audio stuff, like someone reading for me haha) more then reading books.
But it's nice to read a good poem...I read some stuff for my school projects adn they were awesome.
Unfortunetly, I still have this mental block about reading...it's like when I start to read, no matter how much I love what I am reading...I just get this urge to put the book down, start walking around the room and immagining where the story goes from there...or trieing to figure out the meaning of the poem...

Re: Reading stuff vs watching stuff

When I was little, I was absolutely obsessed with reading... I owned hundreds and hundreds of books and would read all the time, sometimes an entire book a day. As I've got older I've read less and less, but the few books I do read, I really really enjoy. I think on the whole I now enjoy reading comics and watching things more than reading books, but mostly because those types of media are now more available to me than they used to be... and perhaps I wore myself out by reading so obsessively when I was little, haha.

But actually, I think I still read the same amount overall, it just isn't all books any more. I read a huge amount of information every day on the internet, whether it's a conversation, or facts like Wikipedia, or a story someone's written, or even school work. So I still think I'm exposed to the written word just as much.

Hmm, never read the books, but I loved the movies...I understand the books have WAY more detail.
BTW I thought you said "books are for nerds" in your YT channel description.

I'm actually very surprised that this is coming from you, but pleasantly so.

                          I completely agree.

Movie adaptations of books can be very good, they just have to be pragmatic about what to cut. Like with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban...they should have cut that silly school choir segment in the beginning instead of the explanation of who the Marauders were.

That's...yanno...kind of important to the backstory of the whole series. And then we get people randomly saying 'Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs' and people who didn't read the books don't know who they are.

For better or worse, you have a streamlined visual adventure in a movie or a richer, branching story in a very long book.

Oedipus was a good one. He has incestuous relations with his mother unknowingly and gouges out his eyes when he finds out. Very interesting.
