NEWTOWN, Conn. (AP) — A man opened fire Friday inside two classrooms at the Connecticut elementary school where his mother was a teacher, killing 26 people, including 20 children, as youngsters cowered in corners and closets and trembled helplessly to gunshots reverberating through the building.

The rampage, coming less than two weeks before Christmas, was the nation's second-deadliest school shooting, exceeded only by the Virginia Tech massacre that left 33 people dead in 2007.

You're just like my grandpa who reads the paper with a loud voice what he thinks is important, nomatter that you read and heard it a couple of times already somewhere else.

according to the logic of the weapon lobby every kid should carry a gun so they can shoot back and defend themself...

They are right to a point though. Take for example Anakin Skywalker killing the younglings. If every youngling was allowed to carry around light sabers, I'm sure Anakin would have gotten some serious butthurt.

we are not into star wars that much but if you say so ...I just fear this lil tykes would kill each other on the playground...

The low incidence of gun crime in Switzerland is sometimes attributed to the fact that Switzerland is wealthy but also isolated. Social problems associated with gun crime in other industrialized countries, such as drugs or urban deprivation, are not widespread. Swiss men and women learn from an early age to associate firearms with defense of their country.

It's all about state of mind. Here in the U.S. we have no such ideological training in terms of firearms like the swiss do....

Well seems like kids have a natural tendency to get into trouble all their own yeah. Water, knives, fire you name it.

Sad. Never been to that exact school but I've been to Newtown High for scrimmages and whatnot. Despite the negative publicity that comes from this and the Cheshire home invasion, Connecticut is actually a great place to live. Many good, friendly people here.
