While I admit I'm not dreadfully familiar with the situation, my primary instinct is that humour based on denigrating persons who belong to vulnerable groups = not cool. Also, I really don't like the word 'hoes' when not referring to garden tools; even sex workers deserve respect.

Before this crap, I hadn't even heard of Don Imus, so I suppose its good publicity for him. Kinda ironic.
The guy is clearly sorry, and I'd imagine its hard to know where the "line" is when you work in radio, especially when your job is to basicly try and straddle that line.

No, because his show is profoundly known for being like that. He's basically Howard Stern, but modest and talks about politics and the news, like immature Larry King. Firing him would be just like when CBS fired, well, Howard Stern, stupid.

I think its hilarious. Americans have this massive language taboo atm and what this guy said was nowhere near as bad as what Michael Richards said a few months ago. These sorts of stories will keep popping up until someone decides to just chill out.
