I don't really know why people are bitching about the jesus statue. If we needed new wonders at all(and I'm not sure we did, but okay) it's pretty good. It's no less an impressive sight than the statue of Zeus would have been.

Well, the fact that the original seven no longer exist (except the Pyramids of course). New wonders is a fair enough idea if you ask me.

By the way, the "Jesus Statue" had a slight advantage because Brazilian corporations cut the cost from sending in votes. Something like that, it's in the Wikipedia article.

Ugly? It's beautiful! Just because it grey(ish) doesn't mean it's ugly. Not to me anyway.

It's the shape that counts.

Obviously you can see that it's not finished. Basically It's a giant concrete shell with no windows, just holes. It was supposed to open in 1989. But they were still doing construction until 1992, until they ran out of cash. They spent around $750 million on it and need about $300 mill more. They are looking for the money from foreign investors (haha, good luck). They say the concrete used was so bad quality (to save money) that over time (15 years) it has been worn down too much, and it's not even worth the investment. It was supposed to have 3,000 room and 7 "rotating restaurant" whatever that means. I think nothing is gonna happen to it sadly. They even removed it from their maps, before it used to be on postcards all finished and light up in the night sky. It's a sad story =(

Seems like a pretty good idea to me. Apart from the fact that would be so incredibly difficult, but it'd be possible, have a thread for nominees. Then a vote then another vote I guess.
