(Yes this is a request, keep reading)
This story reads like a horror story you would read to young nerds by the light of a digital campfire at a virtual computer camp, but it happened to me a few weeks ago - and it can happen to you!
So I got home one evening to do some work on my computer(s) only to find that sometime during the day my 300 gigabyte Seagate drive decided that it wanted to be a 32 gigabyte Seagate drive, taking all the data and tossing it out in the process. Bummer I thought but no big deal, I back up all my data to my NAS.
So I connect to my NAS to discover to my horror that my backup must have run after the drive failure, and because my backup job was set to sync my primary drive it had erased all data leaving me with 32 gigs of empty space! Angered by my stupidity I begin the tedious process of data recovery on the dubious Seagate drive.
Six hours and several recovery programs later - everything from Seagate's own utilities to various hacks and tweaks from around the internet - I had come to the conclusion that all data is lost and the drive is nothing more than a fancy paperweight to hold down all my unpaid bills. In my frustration I accidentally knock over a 32 ounce Baja Fresh cup full of ice water. Time moves in slow motion for me as I watch the water spill over my bills, my
keyboards, and continues on down the back and sides of my desk! The water runs down the cables hanging from my desk to the wall, there completing a circuit from the power socket in the wall to the metal rack where my computer equipment is housed, bypassing ALL surge protection. There is a flash of light, a muffled "POOF!" then everything goes dark.
When I recover from my shock I Whip out my Razr cell phone and use the light of it's LCD screen as a flashlight. I remove the scorched power cord from the wall and make my way out of the house to the power junction box. there I discover that I have blown not only the socket breaker but the main breaker for the house as well. I reset the breakers then make my
way back to my room to survey the damage and clean up.
sometime later, With the water and soggy paperwork cleaned up I check for proper operation of my UPS and reconnect my PCs to power. With trepidation I push the power button on my main workstation: Nothing, the PC does not power up. Dismayed but not disheartened I move on to my secondary workstation - it too fails to power up. I try my servers next - first one, then the other - neither powers up. It is now the middle of the night, too tired to deal with this I pull out my trusty laptop, as I still must get online and get some work done.
Finally online and working away. I turn away from my laptop momentarily to grab my freshly brewed cup of coffee. When I look back I am staring into a BSOD with the dreaded "IRQ_NOT_EQUAL_TO_OR_LESS_THAN" message. 'Perfect end to my day' I think as I power off the laptop. When I push the button again to power it on I see three flashes of the power light and it goes dark. The laptop now refuses to power on. Some troubleshooting later it is determined that the memory controller on the motherboard has gone bad.
I crawl into bed, cover my head and sleep for two days.
1 new laptop, 1 motherboard, 1 hard drive, 2 video cards and 1 power supply later I finally
have my systems mostly back online. However I am still short 300 gigs of data that was on the drive that started this nightmare.
That leads me to my request: Among the data that I lost was nearly all my Lazytown related pictures, videos etc. I've managed to go through the more common sites and these forums and recover some of the stuff that is still available, but it's been time consuming and there is still a lot more out there that I am missing. So if anyone can point me to downloads - data
repositories, links or whatever that you know of that are not already available on these forums I would really appreciate the kindness.
If you REALLY wanted to be nice to me you could upload any files that you have directly to my ftp server. If you choose this option please pm me for the address and login.
