    How-to Guides Listing (Work-in-progress)

Rather than making a sticky for the several How-to Guides here I figured it would be better to make one sticky that has links to the rest of the guides. Besides, they're barely used anyway.

    How-to: Play Shit

How to Change/Add/Remove Audio tracks with MKVMerge

How to Change Audio Tracks with VirtualDubMod

How to Rip DVDs (Links to Guides and Extra Info)

How to Download/Capture Streaming Media with Jaksta

More How-to guides will be coming soon! A more detailed playback/common-files-used-here will be made too. Sort of like a FAQ.

EDIT: Updated 9 Feb 2010. No detailed playback guide will be made unless people start asking for it or getting problems with playback and asking for help. However, there is a minor help guide here: viewtopic.php?p=54096#p54096

    Thanks nindan

I remember when you linked me to that Doom9 group. That was a life saver.

Are your videos done with DVD rips? They're so much cleaner than my capture card ones :?

Yep, most of them are. :) Except for the ones by Edis, although he used a DVD Recorder to get those.

Hmm, I just ripped one of UK DVD's and it still had the lines on it >_<. That a format problem? Odd thing is though, all the episodes I've copied via capture card, whether they are region 1 or 2, they all have lines. Any ideas how to fix this? I've used 2 different DVD players a ps3 and a ps2 we no difference :(

Sorry if I seem kind of newbish on this, but I've never had an issue in the past with this.

Yep, those lines are actually called interlacing. It's a way TVs display video basically. Usually the way to get rid of it is to deinterlace the video. This greatly depends on your region, since you're probably in the PAL region, you will be having to deal with 25 Frames-per-second (FPS). If you had NTSC material, you will most likely be getting a 30 FPS with the probability of being able to do something that will make it go back to 24 FPS. I was able to do that with the LazyTown UK DVDs because they did a 24 FPS to 25 FPS conversion, so I reversed it thanks to a few methods.

Sometimes the TV you have will have interlaced lines anyways, I have an LCD TV that occasionally shows it during movement, not sure why either. Unfortunately, I'm making a lot of assumptions on what you're doing, so I apologize if I did. This Video Basics guide over at animemusicvideos.org may help you understand: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... video1.htm

              Table of Contents here: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtech/

Here's an interesting tidibit about the UK DVDs, every 20 frames or so, you will have a progressive frame (no interlaced lines), followed by an interlaced frame for about 5 frames. This is due to the method they chose to make the 24 FPS to 25 FPS conversion. Well, I gotta thank you bringing this up, it got me to search for more information. Here's the method they used for the 24 FPS to 25 FPS conversion: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telecine#2 ... 3_pulldown

If you saw some of my latest screenshots I made from The New Album, I took advantage of those progressive frames, I also deinterlaced it for certain screenshots that were not progressive. Good luck in learning all this stuff, it took me forever just to scratch the surface in all this knowledge. Heh, I gave someone a method on how I do screenshots and they never replied back, I think I scared them with all the information.

Wow, thanks for all the info! I'll see what I can do about this. Lots of stuff to read about I should probably read this stuff first, but what program are you using to convert this? Also to clear any possible confusion, there are no tv's involved in the process I usually use.

EDIT: Gah, all my LazyTown vids are like this >_< Then there's your uber sexy ones
EDIT 2: Well, I think I solved the problem. Thanks again!

                  Re: How-to Guides Listing (Work-in-progress)

You're welcome. :) I do some funky stuff to get the video the way I want it. I use AviSynth and include some deinterlacing filters and stuff. I also use VirtualDubMod because it has a AviSynth script editor in it. I basically use a bobbing deinterlace which will double the frames used. Then I use a script made by someone (forgot his name! I have to look it up) called unblendpattern that chooses the frames in a certain pattern so that the blended frames are not chosen. It may be difficult to do all this stuff, I know I searched and looked and experiemented until I found something that works. Only about 2 or 3 people in the LazyTown community have actually cared to find out what it is I do. So I don't fully tell my methods unless their is an actual interest, I'd rather not waste anyone's time if neither party is interested in learning everything.

W00t, more info! I'll have to sit down during the weekend to test some stuff out. You've been a great help! It's nice to know some extra video techniques since I make movies as a hobby
