It's no secret. Television shows rip stuff off of each other all the time. After spending countless hours watching various cartoons, I have noticed some similarities between some of the characters in LazyTown, and other characters in the cartooniverse. Some are very similar, some not so much. Here is what I have found so far:
Robbie Rotten vs. Dick Dastardly

Holy Moly the similarities between these two are nearly endless.
- Huge nose/chin
- Dogs as sidekicks
- Purple setup
- Both referred to with first and last names
- Last names are both negative adjectives
- Both names have consonance
- Gets foiled in own plans
Without a doubt, Dick Dastardly played a major part in the development of Robbie. He may have even contributed to Sportacus a bit too with the stache and goggles.
Oldskool Trixie vs. The Kankers

This one is a bit harder to confirm, as their archetype is fairly common. Anyhow, there are still quite a bit of similarities.
- Live in trailer parks
- Poor
- Bullies
- Butch (Marie)
- Buck teeth (May)
- Dirty
- Red Hair (Lee)
- Freckles (May/Lee)
If The Kankers had any influence in Trixie, it was a combo of all three of them. Hard to give a solid answer on this one though.
Newskool Trixie vs. Spinelli

This is much easier to suspect than the Kankers. I mean, come on….
- Asian
- Butch
- Bullies
- Hairstyle
- Red setup
Recess should sue.
Ziggy vs. Mikey

This one isn’t as bad as some of the others, but there are enough similarities to make me wonder.
- Fat
- Blonde
- Same hair style
- Beady eyes
- Free spirited
Give Ziggy a few years and viola, we have Mikey.
Robbie Rotten vs. The Red Guy

I am saving this one for last, because it seems to be the least likely. But nevertheless…
- Both always disguise themselves
- Nobody else ever seems to notice that every time it’s this person in disguise
- ALWAYS pushes the children to do the wrong thing
- And if I really, really want to get deep, The Red Guy is obviously a direct reference to the devil, or the wrong way of doing things. Robbie is an indirect reference, only showing it by his location underground versus Sportacus who lives above. Get it?
I dunno. But whenever I watch Cow and Chicken I sure do think “Robbie” whenever I see The Red Guy doing his thing.
Got any others? Post em here!
