A song about a gay encounter, or a trans encounter perhaps, though that word was not in use at the time. Or a transvestite encounter? Not sure what you call it when a gay man dresses as a woman, but does not consider himself a woman. Certainly an unusual song for a hit.


Seemed to be a number of such songs at the time. Never hear anything like that now, at least I don't. Here's another gender bender from David Bowie wearing a dress and relating an unusual encounter with another man.

A man who dresses as a woman for the purpose of a show/performance is a drag queen, and they're typically ostentatious with the makeup and clothes. Cross dressing on the other hand is a man who dresses as a woman in secrecy, usually for sexual reasons. Neither are done exclusively by gay men (statistically straight men do more cross dressing)
