Should've got Blu-Ray when you could (I've only bought one WB product in my entire lifetime)

There are so many people in the world and there are always people that have a copy available. The disk I was talking about, I didn't have a copy of it but fortunately I shared it once with a few friends and one of them had a copy. It's always wise to share stuff with others so you have a backup. I have a few CDs but never played them because I made digital copies and play the music from other devices, like phone or computer. I shared the music with others. There is always someone that stores just everything the receive.
Magnús: - I have fans of all ages and I don't think it's weird when older people like LazyTown. LazyTown appeals to people for many different reasons: dancing, acrobatics, etc.

There is a word for sharing movies, it's called "piracy". And that's only even possible if you have software capable of defeating the movie's copy protection, and someone to give it to. I got this DVD set 18 years ago, even if I had pirated a copy and given it to someone I would very likely not be in touch with them today. At the time I got it I was living 1,500 km from here.

No, this is just a manufacturing defect, combined with the blu-ray with all the versions currently being out of print. Just bad luck and shoddy manufacturing practices. Unfortunate but not the end of the world. I don't approve of piracy for those who can afford the media, and I can afford it. I bought every Lazytown DVD and CD that was available in my country. I only tend to use shared files for things that are not for sale for whatever reason, since I have no way to buy them.

The way I see it, if I bought a movie or tv series on home media I should have the right to watch it whenever I want for the rest of my life. If the disc becomes unwatchable through no fault of mine, I see no problem with downloading a pirated copy.

Also I learned the hard way to back up hard-to-find stuff on my NAS, and really important stuff on a cloud service. The issue of copying errors remains, but it could be resolved with comparing checksums of copied files. There must be software that does this automatically to ensure the copied file is byte-for-byte identical. IMO that should even be built-in to an operating system's copying tools, but I doubt it is.

Well it wasn't hard to find, Blade Runner is not exactly an obscure movie, and it's had tons of editions, both DVD and Blu-Ray.

I don't use a NAS nor do I use a VPN, I don't do the pirating thing. Too much risk of malware and I can afford the movies.

ISPs really don't like you pirating movies. I doubt a cloud service would let you store hundreds of ripped movies either.

I have had Windows not copy some files when copying a folder to a DVD before, I've lost photos that way. And you don't know if your backup really works until you go to use each and every file.

It's annoying but that's all. Not a great tragedy. The Final Cut version is in print, it's just the one with the voiceovers that isn't, which happens to be my favorite, but oh well.

Oh yeah I only use cloud storage for stuff I've made myself or that I bought as a download in case the service goes under.

Piracy is useful as hell when the movie you want isn't available in Australia (cough cough DRUNKEN MASTER 2)
