(CNN) -- Financial crisis-stricken Iceland formally applied for European Union membership on Friday, a day after lawmakers narrowly backed a government plan to take the island nation into the economic and political bloc.

This whole crisis thing is ONE BIG LIE! Especialy in certain countries like Iceland and Romania for that matter!
The E.U. is one big shit...Iceland, along with Norway and Switzerland should stay clear of this...they were just fine until now, don't belive everything you hear from the press!

No way. They've only just minted new 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p & 50p coin designs, and I can't see them doing that if we're joining the Euro any time soon. I believe there are also plans in the works to replace the series E £50 note with a series F, but then it would be just typical of the British government to roll out something expensive and then scrap the whole caboodle 6 months later. :?

I suppose this means I'd better get hold of some eyrir and krónur before they start becoming collectable (read: expensive :) ).

Thank you. Actually I can't lay claim to that title - I briefly flipped through the Bank of England website a few weeks back. I work in a shop at weekends, so I'd rather know whether or not the money people are giving me is actually legal tender or not. I find it saves getting fired.
My boss kept telling me to check the £50 notes under the black light. Presumably he's been turning away a lot of legitimate money, as even the real £50s don't glow under UV radiation...
