The MacOS interface of today bears no relation to the classic MacOS interface I used for so many years. So despite tons of experience with Macs, it is quite challenging for me to do even simple things to help my girlfriend with her MacBook. To do some security things for example requires dragging icons into particular folders rather than opening a control panel and selecting something.

Chrome opens fine for me both at home and at work on Windows. But of course I don't use any 'family safety feature'.

Chrome is bad anyway, you should not use it. It blocks uBlock Origin because it's too effective at blocking ads. We have stopped using Chrome at work because it has become inferior to Edge. I use Firefox for personal stuff because it's superior to both.

Why would someone build a new system not using DDR5?

If you're building an AM4 system you need to use DDR4 and AM5 is DDR5.

The AM4 socket is designed to be compatible only with DDR4 Ram. DDR5 RAM has a different physical connector and electrical specifications, making it incompatible with AM4 motherboards

Budget and AM4 being a budget build system now that AM5 has been out. As he states at 7:37 "Signaling the end of an era for cost effective PCs".

A lot of people tend to wait a generation two because the older generations are cheaper.

Seems risky with Win11 being so finicky about hardware.

It's amazing how wrong a lot of the instructions are for moving to a new computer. Apple's iTunes instructions are wrong. Firefox's are wrong as are a number of Reddit comments by supposedly knowledgeable people. Having to keep figuring out things myself to get them working.

Spent forever copying my documents folder to the external drive but after those Steam validation failures I am suspect of this copying process. I am going to make big 7zip archives of each major group of documents so when I unzip it at the other end I can tell if the archive or a file in it is corrupted.

Speaking of which I just did that myself again. I do a chkdsk every time I boot in and there were no errors.
There was 1 random drive error on the Chkdsk this time. So did the chkdsk /f will do the drive check errors and correct on boot in/restart.

I haven't ran the sfc /scannow for a few days and of course. Haven't had the issue in a while now.

Why is it an easy fix? It says some files can't be repaired. What then? Also, what issue?

I put the command console on the taskbar for quick launching.
I have the File Explorer there too.

Another thing that Windows does to me is randomly hide taskbar icons on the right side
And I have to go and set it back to show taskbar icon

This time it was the MSI Center. Seems it picks on that one more than the others.

No, I use Windows so I don't have to do command line crap. It's a brand new machine. Why would I do that?

I just validated one of the games here on this PC and it failed too. Apparently with some games, the files get changed every time you play so they always fail validation, probably just that.

I just want some kind of way to tell if my file transfer was successful with tens of thousands of files. 7zip archives seem like a good way to do that. You can test the archives and when extracting it will also tell you if a file has a problem. There should be no chance of a file just disappearing during a transfer of thousands of them.

                      @chuft
You need to go to C:Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log
and delete that file. Do that before
even running the DISM clean cleanup/restorhealth commands.

                      Then run

                      DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /StartComponentCleanup
                      DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth
That cleans up the sfc /scannow error. This issue began cropping up
                      with Windows 10.

That's weird the issue with the steam game installs.

I've seen others complain about that. Download a steam game that's 100 gig
There's no way of telling what's going on with the transfer. Until you verify the file
right clicking on the game and selecting properties and selecting installed files and
chose the verify integrity of game files. I don't remember but if there were issues
it should only download the files that were corrupted.

I remember in the old modem days the Z modem protocol. As you were downloading,
the background process would send verification bits for each packet sent to the computer
and your computer would reply with the response verification bit. Then it would proceed to sending
the next packet if there were no errors in the verification process. If there were errors, it would resend
that packet. Rinse and repeat until the file is done. Pretty mush guaranteed an error free download.

I'm assuming Steam doesn't do that. Since you have to wait until the entire download is done and then
                        verify the files.
