I use FastCopy to copy my files which does a great job copying everything while Windows not always do that, like with hidden or system files. I was going to point out the website but in the version that I use (v3.32) the website in the help tab does not work anymore. The website has been moved to github and fastcopy.jp . It's a free standalone exe-file and since version 5 it's called FastCopyPro. The new version looks the same, and file transfer speed is the same. I still use the free v3.32. Seems it's Japanese software if that's not bothering you.

Well that's the way the TCP layer works in TCP/IP. Anything you get over the internet has each packet checked for errors and resent if necessary. Corruption in my experience tends to happen on the disk, just from bits flipping at random over time, or when doing file moves or copies inside Windows.

As I said some Steam games change files every time you run them so they never match when you validate all the files. Or maybe some were corrupted due to disk problems on this comp and I just copied that over to the new comp.

Thanks but then I am basically trusting that software instead of Windows. 7Zip has checksums and you can even test the archive without extracting it. And it checks for each file when it extracts.

I have CopyWhiz (which I bought back in the day) which you can set up profiles for to do backups of certain folders and files and only if they've been updated. I plan to use that on my new comp for backups. On this comp I haven't bothered with backups really since 2019. I got the code to upgrade CopyWhiz to the newest version for a discount.

Window does a good job of copying files up and down and you can rely on it. There are just a few annoying things that bother me. For example, it pre-scans all files before copying and that can take a while before it starts copying files. Fastcopy starts without scanning and it's just faster. 7Zip can be helpful. I don't know how it handles hidden and system files. The problem is that it can take forever when you need to zip large files/folders, like 4GB files. For small files, no problem. I've never heard of CopyWhiz. It smart to have that in the context menu, like winzip/rar. I have also Bulk Rename and File Converter in my context menu.

I have hidden files and extensions turned on so there are no hidden files. I used to use CopyWhiz in the old days and set up profiles so I could tell it to back up my pop3 email, Firefox user data, Documents folder and so on and it would just copy new things and things that had changed. That way I could hand pick things like my Appdata folders for saved games and such, Documents, Music, Videos and just have it back up everything I cared about and ignore things like installed Steam games or Windows system files that are generic and can be easily reinstalled if needed. So basically whenever I want to back up, just plug in the external drive and run the CopyWhiz profiles of stuff I want backed up. If I knew I had added no videos or songs I could just skip the profiles for those folders so it would not have to do the compares.

7Zip is just for the one time transfer from old to new machine, when I really want to make sure everything gets there. Either the big 7Zip archive gets there and is not corrupted, or not. If I hand copy 20,000 files in Windows, there is a chance something would not make it, or get corrupted, and I would not know. I have lost photos permanently because of Windows failing to copy something in the past.

I would not use 7Zip for regular backups, just for getting everything from one machine to the other this one time.

I have never experienced Windows not copying or corrupting selected files before. The only problem was with hidden/systems files that are not standard visible. They were not transferred to a backup for example, when you select every single file in a folder because hidden/systems files are not visible. Somehow you expect that Windows gives a warning that there are files in that folder which are hidden/system, but no. CopyWhiz works the same with selecting files so there's the same problem. Unless you have hidden/systems files set as visible. FastCopy works different. You can select a folder and give the command to transfer only the files within that folder to your backup folder, that includes hidden/system files. That's why I prefer this software.

I always make hidden files visible at all times on all my computers.

In the past I had no issues with CopyWhiz backing up Appdata and things in it. Appdata itself is normally a hidden folder.

I kept putting off updating the Radeon drivers. I'm still on the March release drivers when I redid the OS.
Looks like their newer driver gives a 9% game performance increase. Sweet.

The RX 9070 passes the RTX 5070 Ti by 3%

                  Go right to 7:06

Edit: Forgot also looks like Nvidia is still abandoning gamers. In favor of their AI focus no doubt.

I have an RX 6600 which is still being touted as a good 1080p card. The drivers will increase performance across the board.
I probably should have opted for an RX 6650. At that time when I built my new computer in September 2022. The RX 6650
was top price since it was released in May 2022. The RX 6600 at that time still had a good performance for the price.
The RX6600 was released in August of 2021. So it was a little over a year old at the time. The problem now is the memory.
It's only an 8 gig memory video card. I played the Ferocious demo and it ran fine so. But the memory issue only seems to come
into play if you plan on playing above 1080p.

Well now I have a RX 9060 XT and I am almost done copying everything to the new computer, still have some app installs like Ghub and CopyWhiz. But this weekend I should be giving this AMD card its first spin for gaming, see how it compares to the GTX 1660 TI.

Did you mess with the setting in the Radeon control panel to set those options in the image below?
I have never messed with them. That window always pops up in all games
to show you those settings whether you set them or not.

I didn't mess with anything until I tried the game and it was so unplayable. I did Alt-R and brought up the Adrenaline thing and turned on some performance increasing things, but not much help if any.

It does not show FPS in the upper right, just 100% FPS which I assume is the lowest FPS over time. I will try launching it again and see if I can get a screenshot.
