    New System Problems

Well I put my new system together and have been working on it ever since. Everything seems fine with it except for the windows install. Seems my x1650 is sharing resources with the PCI Standard PCI-to-PCI Bridge and it isn't being recognized properly. I'm in the middle of trying out different things so far nothing has worked.

It's when I do my first reboot back into the new windows xp or 2000 install it keeps rebooting when it tries to load windows. When it does reboot I get the standard start windows in safe mode or normal. I've tried both xp and 2000 however the 2000 still lets me boot in to it.

I did look into the driver specs and that's when I saw the conflicts.

I also flashed the board with a newer bios. The one that was on the board was dated 10/2006 this new one is 11/2007. Even that didn't solve the issue.

I'll tell you though this Antec 900 case is like a bloody refrigerator. :)

Along with the gigabyte cpu cooler the bios temp readings are coming in at 27c for the CPU AMD x2 6000+ and 33c for the case temp.

Also excuse my typing. I'm on a laptop right now and I hate laptop keyboards.

      Re: New System Problems

I posted about this issue on the Anandtech forums but seems I'm the only one in there even posting in that thread too hehe. Anyway I've had a breakthrough as I posted on that tech forum:

Been working on my old rig with the 9600 agp. I installed the latest drivers. A brainstorm hit me, I powered down. Drained the power once again and swapped cards putting in the x1650. Was still getting the conflict. I stopped the VGAsave service and went into device manager and clicked on the VGA compatible one and selected update driver and then chose "I will select what to install". Lo and behold the 1650 option was there. Selected it and wallah! It installed. Then I selected the second one which is secondary and used the same procedure. This time a 1650 secondary was in the driver list. Got the x1650 running fine it seems. Now how to go about getting the installed drivers on my new rig and windows install. This is going to be fun.

Still don't understand why this 1650 is doing this all of sudden. One of the problems also is that the ATI insist you use the standard VGA installed first before it will do a dang thing. Anyway, I'll keep you guys up to date on further developments.
I am tired. Been working on this for like a day and a half.

Well thank you. I just ain't smart enough to defeat a dumb motherboard though. Gunna have to RMA this new one back. Pity though it's damn pretty but right now that's all it is is eye candy. I gave it my best shot for days to no avail it simply won't boot back into windows after the initial install and reboot and just keeps going into a reboot loop until I stop it. Not only that, it isn't even registering the memory properly. Crap! Yeah so you could say I got a charlie brown board. :)

I should have listened to some of the others and stayed away from ECS the company that makes the board and gotten a gigabyte or asus. Shame on that too because this board on a tech review did as well as an expensive asus one but I guess it's just pot luck on what you end up getting and my luck sucks anyway. I just don't have the patience right now to try and get a replacement just an exchange now I just have to do more research while this one is on it's way back to newegg.

Well I'm not one to give up easily. I've got to try one more thing to get this new mobo booting with windows. I obtained a fresh copy of XP prefectly good working version too. That's the only thing I can figure is wrong.

I had every intention of sending the mobo back and took everything apart again so I have to now re-paste the heat sink and cpu. Ugh!

Yes it is very perty. Those pics don't do it justice though. My camera does a rather poor job in low light situations. Take for example that last pic. The side case fan led color is actually much much bluer than that cyan color that's showing up.
