    Browser choice in Windows

Thanks to our dutch Competition Eurocommissioner Neelie Kroes, Microsoft needs to add a browser choice in WinXP, Vista and Windows 7
Windows users will be able to choose which web browser(s) they want to use on their computer by means of a browser Choice Screen. It comes with the next update.
You get a 'browser Choice Screen' where you can choose one (or more) of the 12 most popular web browsers, including Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari and Opera.

With Microsoft's monopoly, there was too many webpages compatible only with Internet Explorer.
By getting that shit away the EU is helping all organizations to develop pages that follow standards.

Thanks for the update but we've already been able to do this for the past 20 years.

Oh? You mean instead of downloading an alternative browser Microsoft is forced to include competing products in their own operating system?

What a ridiculous example of anti-trust regulation gone awry.

That could be so, but many people, like me, are too lazy to look around and install another browser. IE works fine and if you haven't seen another browser working you don't know any better. Most people think it's all the same, watch internet pages, and why choose another browser if they're all doing the same. Maybe with this choice a lot of people becomes aware of other browsers and because of the simple choice they might use another and finally see the difference (I hope).
The choice will be available for more than 100 million European users of Windows, american users don't get that choice.

It become similiar to censorship. Maybe the most important. We have the skills, but most peoples out there know less about it.

"Dumb people are too dumb to go download something superior" is not a good reason for forcing Microsoft to include competing browsers in their own product.

There are competing alternatives for most of the software and internals in Windows... most of which are better... why not force Microsoft to offer up a choice for every damn thing you want to do? "Wanna play some music? Pick from one of these billions of media players!" "Wanna move your cursor? Pick from one of these billions of cursor add-ons!" "Wanna open a new Explorer window? Pick from one of these billions of skins for Windows!"

Just fill a complaint to the commission. The browser choice was a result from Opera's antitrust complaint. Most large businesses have large problems.

Opera files an antitrust complaint with EU, urging Microsoft to give consumers the option to use standards-compliant browsers.

Microsoft’s pledge to improve does not satisfy European Commission investigators.
Opera says Microsoft’s move is, “too little, too late.” Opera offers support for the Commission's suggestion
of a preloaded choice screen or an alternative browser other than IE, as selected by the OEMs.

                            Present
The European Commission wraps up its investigation, and consumers now have the option
to use a standards-compliant browser with their Windows operating system.

But IE - it's f****ng problem, trouble, mistake, fail - for users, for all of us. For the developers. For security. For the world.

Mouse and others - of course is not a problem. Like IE of course.
