    Re: Diary of a madman!

I know you guys have been patient and thanks for being patient. Don't forget I'm relearning and learning some new stuff for 3dsmax so it's a bit of a process for me. I haven't been idle though. I've been reading and trolling around tutorials for 3dmax. It ain't easy finding the right ones though. But I did come across a few the other day that has shed some light for me.

I've worked on the bottom tail section adding the slight curve to the wing and the ailerons which I colored in a lighter blue for easier seeing.

I've also been had started reworking the rib cage. However, I think I've been trying to do that the hard way. I came across another tutorial that just might make it easier. This was prompted since I obtained better resolution images of the airship and see details in the airship that I didn't see before especially the rib cage. I'm posting three images of this and I'm keeping the png format so it may take time to load.

I should have realized that the rib cage was not solid. As you can see in the third image they are hollow. I also get to see better how the propeller section looks like woot. Well, in any case, if I don't have much of the rest of this thing done by the end of the week, I'll eat my own shorts. Excluding the gondola section though. I'm staying away from making YTMNDs also until this is done since I pretty much know Adobe Premiere inside and out now from doing them :)

Thanks, it's looking sweeter than I even thought.

    I know I can't wait myself hehe.

Her maiden flight! She isn't nearly as ready for that but she flew anyway. I thought I had nailed down the cloud displacement as the ship passed through the cloud but I didn't. Oh well, still looks good so far. Fly away!

Took 1 hr 20min for rendering 83 frames. I dumped it into adobe premiere and repeated the frames a few time to make the clip a little longer other wise it would have been just 4 seconds.

    16 seconds run time

    25fps

Played around with the sky color. I think that looks much better. I squished the clouds a bit more and scaled the ship bigger with a slight rotation.

Got a hold of some plugins today and gave one a whirl (CLOUDS). Don't that just look pretty. :)

Still haven't worked on the model much for the past few weeks. Will be getting back to it asap.

Got a bit more work done on this model today. Some preliminary work done in the fin section needs a tad more smoothing out and tweaking but the rudder section came out fine.

Ah the tail section. I was reviewing some lazytown videos I have and looking over the stills I screen captured and can't get a really good look at those little tail wings so I'm going to go on pure guess work in this area based on what I think I see. It was also the last thing I worked on last night. Didn't have any more umph to get started on the top fin.

Not bad looking at all I say. Now to work on the smaller two tail wing sections and the top fin section.

Shaping and reshaping. Working and reworking. Tedious times but it's still fun especially watching this come along and looking more and more like the actual thing. :)

Dealing with rear wing this time. I think I pretty much got all the proportions and angles even better this time around. I left the old rear wing there just to show the comparison to the better wing assembly.

The first wing sections are coming out rather good as compared to the original. I quite happy with how this is coming along now. Glad I upgraded the computer too. Things have been much more uber fast.

Thanks you very much. Yeah, it's starting to finally look pretty cool and more like the airship as I go along.. I just got back home and before I left after I posted that new set of pics above I did some fine tuning on the wing elements. Lined them up better especially the pontoons at the end of the wings and started to shape them. I still need to scale the wings thinner though which I'm about to work on now. Here's everything all in perfect alignment, according to 3dmax grid lines.

First here's just two of the reference pics I've been using so you have an instant comparison on hand:

    Disregard.

    Looks good.
You might have seen a blank spot under the rib cage just before I re-uploaded the image again. I forgot to turn on force 2 sided when I rendered it oppsy. If you leave that unchecked it will only render the outer surfaces and not the inner ones.

Thanks again now I need to seriously get back to finishing this off. :)
