Well, in Swiped Sweets it's a birthday cake, which all three birthday episodes we've had so far seem to think is fine. I think the use in Miss Roberta is entirely a case of reused footage, and has no real need to be there except that they needed a half-way appropriate song without writing another one (and they were having a party, though it seems to me that making a normal cake for a party in Sportacus's honour is a little inconsiderate).

Know what's funny about that case you mentioned? There WAS an entirely appropriate song they could have used without reusing Cooking by the Book. Care to guess what it is?

It's 'Dancing'! They played the first and last lines of the song and showed Stephanie dancing to it, they could have easily shown Stephanie's entire rehearsal at that point. But they didn't, and that great song was never used in its entirety in an episode.

'Cooking by the Book' is a good song, and Zafa loves it to bits, but...

We were just talking about it on TeamSpeak. Last night, I think it was. About how it's ironic that 'Cooking by the Book' is one of the best-known songs thanks to YTMND, but it's about cake. Sure, the song emphasizes following recipes and not hogging ingredients/adding random unhealthy crap, but that giant lollipop-planted cake runs contradictory to the show's emphasis on eating healthy things like sportscandy.

Cooking by the Book is also well known thanks to YouTube.

According to Stephanie, "cake's OK sometimes" which goes along with the moderation idea CJ mentioned. My vote for this thread is definitely Swiped Sweets.

The first episode I watched was "Happy Brush Day" but I wasn't too sure of it, cos Robbie dressed as a birthday fairy kind of worried me lol

I wouldn't go with dear diary or greatest hits, because they're not examples of what the average episode is like. If someone has these for their first eps they might think every episode has this much singing, and they might not like that and not give the other episodes a chance, or they might be disappointed when the other eps have less singing.
