Good luck with the quittin' of the smokes and the tests. I almost blacked out once due to dehydration. If you're interested, I got this Eyes of Nye episode called Addiction that may help in understanding addictions.

Thanks for the prop up however this is not entirely about addiction. I know all to well what's going on and what needs to be done. It's certain things going on with me that need to be surmounted. However, if I can hold on to it my brain did something tonight and just like the snap of a finger I've got that old feeling back that was lost to me for seven years. This might be the breakthrough I've been looking for. But something is going on with this brain of mine and will be going to for tests on doctors orders. Normally I wouldn't care but I just want to make sure my brain's not becoming a veggy. I'd rather be dead than that any day.

Awesome! I hope you can do it! Are ya feeling better? I've heard the first days are rough, but things get better... I bet that 'feeling' that you're talking about is pretty awesome, huh?

          Usually, the first 3 days.

I just hope it holds up. To be honest I've cheated off and on this weekend. Today I've only had one cig and pretty much was mopping around and snoozing off and on. I just hope when I wake up it's not back to that old feeling.

And yes that old feeling is awesome been gone for seven years too long.

Well, you got people cheering you on... so I'm sure that helps some! After you quit completely, you should go out there and hit on the ladies! ;)

That's weird. You look good, considering your age group (and that was NOT meant to be an age joke... it was a compliment XD). You must not be trying :\

I used to smoke, but I never got addicted.
When I quit I was able to do so in the blink of an eye, but now it's 6 months later and I really miss it for some reason.
I wish I could afford to start again.

As for the ladies, I think girls smoking is über sexy.
And the few times I've kissed girls who are smokers, the taste of them was such a turn on for me.
                    Maybe I'm just weird.

Reason why I tell people I'm not out of the woods yet. Could be 30 60 or even a year from now I'll get a desire to light one up. :)

I still call BS on all those crackers that keep insisting cigs are really that bad for you. Maybe for some because of genetic reasons. But it is totally impossible to isolate the habit from other environmental contaminations.
More and more people have quit and yet asthma and cancer rates are still
increasing. I still say the government and other industries are using the cigs as a scapegoat.

Here's another example of many I can dig up:

More like chain smokers. You know the ones. A cigarette every 10 minutes. Yeah I could see that would happen to the lungs. I'd also like to see their living history. What else could have they been exposed to like high traffic areas etc. Someone who just throws a picture at everyone stating this is what smoking cigarettes does to your lungs leading people to believe that all smokers are going to end up that way. Ridiculous and slanderous and that includes the even more bs crap about second hand smoke. I, even before I smoked, worry more about other atmospheric pollutants like car exhaust than I do about who is smoking in a room.

What makes me laugh is banning the smoking from the outdoor eateries. There was this place across the street from the museum of art on 5th ave. From spring to fall there would be tons of people sitting there eating the stuff and doing their smoking. When the new law was passed, the smokers dwindled. Yet these same people that probably sit there and complain when someone lights a smoke are sitting just a few feet from the most extreme traffic in the city. They've cleaned the outside of that Museum twice since I've been going down there. Turns blackish after a while and it ain't from smoking. Yet these same people are sitting, eating and breathing in that very same crap and not uttering one complaint. Yeah bs is what I say.

I'm proud of you boredjedi! You're doing such a good job

My dad smokes alot. I'd say... a pack a day. Growing up, he always smoked around us, and after awhile, me and my brothers all got asthma. The doctor said it was due to second hand smoke. I don't have it so bad, but my youngest brother can't even play football without his inhaler. After Vince was sent to the ER for an attack that nearly killed him, my dad started at least smoking outside. My dad, on the other hand, has emphysema (which he got from smoking). He's get's pretty sick and he can hardly play with the dogs anymore :(

Sure, cigs do more harm for some than it does for others. A good point though is that... what harm could possibly come from quitting? It's not healthy at all. There are too many risk involved, too many carcinogens too. Do you really wanna take that risk on getting cancer one day? If it gets bad enough, you just might die. The risk is just too great. So... just try at least! If not for yourself, think of the people that will miss you if you one day got cancer and died.

Funny, I was going to say more or less the same thing. Though that would only be in effect in some areas of the city, and perhaps only occuring in some higher population cities, or at least, ones with plenty of cars.

I totally agree with you, Jedi.
There are way too many variables in modern society to blame one thing for anything.

And yes, Dawn, cigs are definately not good for you, but it's like (to use a poorly thought-out metaphor) if a handful of kids go missing, and the cops find evidence that links one or two of them to one guy, then he's charged with all of them. Meanwhile, however many other dangerous people are still out there.

The one thing that cigarettes do without dispute is they make people idiots.
We just had an all-out ban on smoking in enclosed public places introduced over here a few months ago (I know it's been around in other places for ages, but I'm arrogant so I didn't think about it until it affected me).
The main argument for the ban was "I have a right not to breathe your second-hand smoke."
How about your right to look at the outside of a building and see the sign that says smoking is allowed inside, and then using your own power of free will to decide whether to **** off to one of the many non-smoking buildings in the area, or else make your choice to enter and shut the **** up in the knowledge that it was your decision and you only have yourself to blame.

Freedom of choice is what you got.
Freedom from choice is what you want.
And also, as the inimitable Stephen Fry told us on QI (series 1 episode 10 if anyone wants to look it up), the ban on smoking in aeroplanes was a totally bad idea in terms of passenger health and safety. When people could smoke, the cabin air was completely replaced every few minutes. These days the airlines save money by using a mixture of fresh and recycled air which lowers the oxygen level to well below the proven comfort level and increases the risk from airbourne viruses and deep vein thrombosis. People assume that because they can't smell smoke, then the air must be clean. Plus the low oxygen level coupled with the fact that the smokers are already stressed from not having a smoke causes more air-rage incidents than any other factor, aparrently.

                                Sorry.
                                /rant

And last I heard, everything gives you cancer.
Even ****ing sunlight gives you cancer.

I do not endorse the ****ing of sunlight.
