Everybody I know in RL for starters.Originally posted by CJVercettiWho the hell says "fortnight?"Originally posted by kellyI attend TAFE 15 hours a week and apply for 4 jobs a fortnight, in return for which I get AUD400-odd unemployment benefit a fortnight.

Fortnights are very rarely used in North America.- Translate

You replied before I could edit in the Wikipedia quote
It might be archaic usage to you, but that's because you're a Yank.Originally posted by WikipediaA fortnight is a unit of time equal to two weeks: that is 14 days, or literally 14 nights. Re: What the hell do you do for a living?
The point of the quote was the sentences after the definition, the ones that say it's a common term in Britain and the Commonwealth. As I said, you only think it's outdated because you're American.Originally posted by CJVercettiI know what a fortnight is.
It's just a very outdated term.- Translate

Re: What the hell do you do for a living?
I work as an armed security officer making anywhere from $10-15/hr depending on the job. Almost all my jobs pay $15. Normally, I'm at a bank in a less-than-crime-free part of town ensuring the joint doesn't get robbed. Occasionally I do construction sites, wedding receptions, jewelry stores, patrols, etc. By the end of this month, I will have worked well over 300 hours.- Translate

Hell, no. Edgar could beat me up if he was trying.Originally posted by CJVercettiYou're saying you want to fight me?
I don't hit women...
...hard.
I don't see why pointing out I talk differently to you because I'm Aussie and you're American constitutes picking a fight. It's outdated in the US, OK, but it's everyday language (not to mention used in all Centrelink literature when referring to 2 week payment periods) in Aus.
I also use the word 'mate' to mean good friend, spell 'colour' with a U, call the absorbent thing you put on babies' bottoms a 'nappy', and think 'fanny' means 'vulva'.- Translate

That's a cool job though, I think you're winning so far.- Translate

Too bad saying it with an American accent makes you sound like a moron or a pretentious art school student.Originally posted by XizerWhat the hell is wrong with the word fortnight? I've heard it many times in my lifetime.
It also sounds cooler than saying "two weeks."- Translate
