This is confusing because when I go into the BIOS itself it says "CSM Enabled" which means it is in Legacy mode, not UEFI.

Oh there should be an option in the bios I would think to switch between legacy and current.
I don't think this mobo has that option in the bios. There are legacy settings but it's for
devices.

That's weird. I guess they did that free up room on the motherboard.
It is a Battery Type: CR2032. But they put a sheath around it for insulating it
and the connector. So it must be floating around there somewhere.

Weirdly the back of my machine does not look anything like this. The configuration of the ports is totally different. Those shiny yellow things for the wifi antenna are the opposite end from the little bank of audio jacks and such - up by the red ports in this picture.

So far, still getting the Windows 11 updates even though I'm not logged into the MS account

I was waiting for that .NET update. I had to install .NET 2.0 for the controller.
The updated .NET hasn't affected the Flight controller.

I also haven't gotten any random blue screens. I haven't installed everything back yet though.
The adobe suite or the games. Just going to run the Windows 11 as is for a little longer.

I'm still stuck in the past it seems. In the beginning of Windows 11,
it was a requirement to be logged into an MS account for updates and other features.
Not so much nowadays it seems. Kind of like laxing the requirement for TPM.

I still remember those tutorial videos about how to skip the account stuff and creating just
a local account with the caveat that you are forgoing updates.

In any case, always good to know if someone has a question about that.

That pretty much does it for this adventure. Just one more thing that I almost
forgot about but caught it going through my list of customizing the Windows
to the way it was. The fast start up. Think that was started with Windows 10.

in Windows 11, Fast Startup does utilize hibernation, but it's a modified version specifically designed for faster boot-up times.
Instead of a full shut-down, Fast Startup saves the system's state to a hibernation file (hiberfil.sys).
This allows the system to resume where it left off, bypassing the full boot process

The reset option was made a full reboot.

You can turn off the Fast Start Up:

Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Power Options

Select: Choose what the power buttons do



Select: Change settings that are currently unavailable




Just untick the Fast Start up and Save Changes

They did not lax the requirements for TPM or UEFI/availability of Secure Boot. That's what I was saying before. If you use some hack to bypass these requirements it will not do major system updates, you will have to do that hack each time with major update packs manually. At least according to some dude I read who has installed Win11 on 40+ systems.

Windows 11 Home does require a MS account to install it, unless you use some unapproved workaround to get around it. They keep removing those tricks one after the other. I think the next release is supposed to remove the last one.

Windows 11 Pro/Enterprise does not require it because you can use Domain Join. In a work environment you are going to have your own Active Directory domain either onsite or using Entra (Azure AD) and log in using a local account from that domain. Nobody in a serious work environment is going to be logging into work computers using a personal MS account under the control of the user.

I don't think it's the little updates, it's the major feature packs, most if not all of which would already be incorporated into your install version if it is recent. The pain comes later when a new feature pack comes out. In any case those tutorials are for Windows Home. Pro/Enterprise cannot require a MS account because they are meant to use work domain accounts.

I never shut down my computer, it runs all year long. But when I boot, it's within a few seconds. No need to go faster.

Yeah I don't get the fast boot thing. The whole point of a reboot is to get a fresh start. Why would you want to preserve whatever the state was last time.

Wow. Using a Mac for 2 years and only having it crash twice has made me realize that Windows really does suck.

It's like hot garbage but I love hot garbage
