Her maiden flight! She isn't nearly as ready for that but she flew anyway. I thought I had nailed down the cloud displacement as the ship passed through the cloud but I didn't. Oh well, still looks good so far. Fly away!

Took 1 hr 20min for rendering 83 frames. I dumped it into adobe premiere and repeated the frames a few time to make the clip a little longer other wise it would have been just 4 seconds.

    16 seconds run time
    1025x554
    25fps
    29mb

          Re: Diary of a madman!

I know you guys have been patient and thanks for being patient. Don't forget I'm relearning and learning some new stuff for 3dsmax so it's a bit of a process for me. I haven't been idle though. I've been reading and trolling around tutorials for 3dmax. It ain't easy finding the right ones though. But I did come across a few the other day that has shed some light for me.

I've worked on the bottom tail section adding the slight curve to the wing and the ailerons which I colored in a lighter blue for easier seeing.

I've also been had started reworking the rib cage. However, I think I've been trying to do that the hard way. I came across another tutorial that just might make it easier. This was prompted since I obtained better resolution images of the airship and see details in the airship that I didn't see before especially the rib cage. I'm posting three images of this and I'm keeping the png format so it may take time to load.

I should have realized that the rib cage was not solid. As you can see in the third image they are hollow. I also get to see better how the propeller section looks like woot. Well, in any case, if I don't have much of the rest of this thing done by the end of the week, I'll eat my own shorts. Excluding the gondola section though. I'm staying away from making YTMNDs also until this is done since I pretty much know Adobe Premiere inside and out now from doing them :)

                Re: Diary of a madman!

Holy crap it works!!! Mind you I didn't find a tutorial precisely on doing this it was something completely different but the idea hit me if I tried it on the rib cage. In this case as a test, I created just a cross beam which I copied and attached a few times and then bent it 360 degrees. Now that's the ease I was looking for and I can put all the details on the one section before doing the process of copy and attaching. Wouldn't be a bit surprised if that's how they actually made the rib cage for the airship since the rib looks to be of one constructions with attachment holes to make it look as if it's made of the separate elements.

The beauty is in the detailing. Based on the first high rez screen shot of the airship the beams shall look like this

                    Re: Diary of a madman!

Well small update. Seems the easiest way is not the best way with 3ds max. I kept crashing the program with memory errors and such. I had to create each beam separate all the horizontal and vertical beams. I thought I had done the count right but it seems, looking at the image below, the spaces between the beams are a bit off. I was even crashing the program trying to put the attachment holes into the beams as I wanted to in the above pics. Seriously, how's a guy suppose to do highly detailed models when the program can't even handle it. Sheesh. Well anyway here's the latest of my progress with the new beam structure. Looks a lot better than it did before and more like the actual one. Still needs a bit of smoothing and adjusting which I'm doing right now.

Thanks and I am. I actually fell asleep in my chair again working on it. After many starts and restarts and redos I think this pretty much nails it. Looks cleaner and cleaner with each time I muck with it. Going back to work on the red and white trim work today. Woot!

                        This ship screams SPEED!
