        And just for fun

and the original. Man this sound was magical, I'll never forget first hearing it that summer on the radio. Buying the 45 single and playing it over and over.

Now that I think about it, I think I heard this extended mix on the radio more than the short version for the Fun Boy Three version.

As my dad used to say, "Try a salad, lady!"

And then Belinda Carlisle....lost the weight.

Funny how you can tell these videos were all shot in L.A. I think she was from Brentwood.

I always liked this video with its psychedelic parts.

Man in the 80s no matter what you were listening to, you knew you were missing out on 800 other amazing songs. When I look at albums released in 1982 alone it blows my mind. Such riches.

                  Some more English Ska-like whatever.

and this one....been a long time....my freshman year in college this English girl Ellen really liked this album, it was one of the few things she brought from England and she was terribly homesick. She was very pretty and I had a crush on her. We actually went to a bunch of frat parties one evening on Hallowe'en but I think I got too drunk for her taste. Oh well. I already had a lover so I don't remember how I was able to go out with Ellen. Probably some temporary spat. Her costume was a cat which mostly meant a slinky tight fitting black garment with whiskers painted on her face and some cat ears in her hair. She had headaches all the time, like 24/7/365, so she wasn't very libidinous anyway. I think she finally solved it the following year with some kind of biofeedback therapy.

But this song always makes me thing of her. Not that I've played it for...never mind.

The lyrics of this song - about an underwear thief stealing garments from clothes lines - seem obviously inspired by this old Pink Floyd number written by Syd Barrett about a guy getting busted for stealing clothes off clothes lines.

Starting a landslide in my ego
                    Look from the outside
To the world I left behind

                    I'm dreaming
                    You're awake
                    If I were sleeping
                    What's at stake

                    A day without me

                    Whatever the feelings
                    I keep feeling
                    What are the feelings
                    You left behind

                    Today's a day without me

I started a landslide in my ego
                    Look from the outside
To the world I left behind
In the world I left behind
Wipe their eyes, and then let go
To the world I left behind
Shed a tear, and then let go

It was no wonder one of my main hobbies was just listening to music. There was such a tidal wave of good tunes of totally different styles in the 80s that no one could possibly keep up, especially with no internet. It paid to have friends with large record collections that you could tape.

I love Lange remixes and didn't listen to this one as much but now I keep wanting to listen to it daily.
