          Not hurricanes, only tropical depressions.

All hurricanes start as tropical depressions.

Sand dust coming from Africa. It seems there is always something exciting going on over there 😮

Up to 40" of rain expected in Jamaica. Cat 5. Think this is the worst storm ever to hit them.

Why would anyone want to live there. Every time you built something up it's going to be destroyed in hurricane season.

I just found a video from earth on one of my HDD, downloaded a couple of years ago, made by NASA. You see the warm/cold current and how storms are formed.

There's about 2.8 million Jamaicans living in Jamaica (most born there) and almost that many living in the US, UK, and Canada. So I guess almost half of them agree with you and left. Or maybe they just wanted to get out of a third world country. How they all managed to get into first world countries is an interesting question. Immigration is usually not very easy in any rich country.

It's also gorgeous, if you google pictures of it. Mountains and tropical seas tend to make for spectacular views.

From the videos I saw, the storm damage on the island of Jamaica impacted the houses, which were built with wood and thin metal. That shouldn't be difficult to rebuild. Relatively few people died in the storm, which went from The Caribbean Sea to Jamaica (Montego), Cuba, Haiti, Bahama, Bermuda, and further north.

Aruba, Jamaica ooo I wanna take you
Bermuda, Bahama come on pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego baby why don't we go
                          Jamaica Off The Florida Keys

                          There's a place called Kokomo
That's where you wanna go to get away from it all

Strongest storm to ever make landfall in the Atlantic. It looks like it mainly hit the western part of the island (capital is on the east side) so maybe it was primarily rural areas. It is mountainous and roads are out, power is out etc so it will be awhile before we get real assessments.

It is a poor country so many people may not have the money to rebuild.

It was a biblical level deluge today. So much rain and it's just the tip.
