Can't say I've heard that one before. Looking into it, it's from 2004, after he had been living in the US for some time, and was in protest of the 2003 US invasion of Iraq. I think the "belly" reference and hamburger line is about how he hates the US diet (he is a hardcore vegetarian).

The line about never having a black President hasn't aged well, within 4 years of the song, Barack Obama was elected President.

I liked the Darling Buds, though they were not nearly so prolific nor active nearly as long. I didn't even realize they had a third album, I will have to look for it. The British Press used to treat them and the Primitives as competing "blonde female singer with male instrument players" bands, which was kind of silly. The guy who founded the Primitives (Paul Sampson) advertised for a male singer but Tracy Tracy showed up for the audition and changed his mind. The intent of the band wasn't to have a blonde female singer. She's actually a redhead on the second album. In any case the style of "(bleached) blonde woman with brunette male players" had been done long before, in the US, by Blondie. In their case the name makes it clear it's rather deliberate.

I liked the second Darling Buds album, Crawdaddy, much better than their first, Pop Said. I am curious to hear their third one, Erotica. Hopefully it is better than, say, the second Republica album, or the second Elastica album. Some of these groups don't have much past their initial material. Fortunately the recent Primitives material is every bit as good or better than their original stuff.

I don't see Darling Buds and Primitives as that similar. Darling Buds were really 80's style new wave pop. Primitives had much more of a 1960's influence, had more of a garage band sound, and also always had male vocal tracks as well as duets between Paul and Tracy. In fact in 2012 they put out an entire album of covers of obscure 1960's songs. I also think Tracy Tracy is a much better singer.

Can you imagine the Darling Buds doing these numbers?

Both of these songs have a snarkiness that reminds me of Morrissey.
