I think security updates is the big one.

They are offering a paid option to continue to get security updates. The cost doubles each year.


The Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESU) program gives customers the option to receive security updates for PCs enrolled in the program. ESU is a paid program that provides individuals and organizations of all sizes with the option to extend the use of Windows 10 devices past the end of support date in a more secure manner.

When I loaded up the gimp, it jumped up on the

I knew it. I knew it! I shouldn't have said anything. I jinxed it heh. I was in the kitchen cleaning up my dinner stuff. Was listening to a youtube. Then it went quiet.
Got to the computer and sure enough it was in the process of rebooting. Ugh. I don't know if there was a blue screen involved.

I don't get it. Worked fine for 20 hours.

A light bulb went off in my head. Check to see if there are more instability issues with AMD vs Intel cpus.

I have never been able to fully find out the root cause of the problem. I have tried everything that I can and, at the moment, I feel as though I am trying to find out if an animal is an elephant by poking it with a stick with my eyes shut (clearly Co-Pilot's sense of humour is catching). The only option that I have not tried is to revert to Windows 10 although I would prefer to find out what is the root problem with Windows 11. Can anyone help?

I have to get a school laptop . And I honestly do not care if Windows 10 ain't supported

I'll be dual booting Reloaded7, a Windows 10 LTSCH mod made to look and feel like Windows 7. 11 is probably gonna be the last Windows, so 10 will still be "supported" for a long time

All those security updates, cumulative updates and bug fixes etc....

If your computer is online, you need those. Threats change all the time.

All updates will end October for Windows 10. I don't know if they will extend it like they did with Windows 7.

There are hundreds of millions of computers online so the chance that your computer will be picked is very small and if you also run anti-malware, antivirus and good firewall software then the chance is much smaller. I rather updates those. This is more based on fear than rational thinking.

As I said last time, make a partition backup once you have done a fresh install, with all the software you use and the latest Windows 10 updates for that matter. If that works well then you can restore it in 15 minutes if you think something is wrong with your Windows computer. Windows 10 has been on the market for so long that it has very few bugs so why would you install a new version with the chance of new bugs and incompatible software/hardware and drivers. You are just a test person for Microsoft to test the new operating system Windows 11 for bugs that were not in Windows 10.

At the time I was thinking it was just a matter of time for Windows 10. Now that MS is phasing that out, only a matter of time now for Windows 11.
Windows 12 is due soon. By at least late this year or in 2026. Soon after that Windows 11 end of life. Hopefully, MS doesn't screw over AMD users with Windows 12.
Since AMD is rather clobbering Intel, MS better get off its bs preferential treatment.

"Make a Partition" I'm doing one better this time. Once I install the Adobe suite back on, I'm cloning the entire drive to another drive.
No separate partitions. Which I should have done with the previous install if I didn't get lazier than Robbie Rotten at times.
But really it's installing all the games back on. I have a bunch installed on the non-ssd 2nd hard drive. It's a 1tb drive and just
that handful of games has left 16gb left. I have a lot more games I'd like to reinstall. I'm eyeing this 8tb drive.
I'll probably order that one in a week or two. And I'll use the 1b drive as the clone drive for this refresh install of Windows.

Edit: Forgot even if I did have the drive cloned back when I installed Windows 11. It'd be out of date anyway.
Since 24h2 is the go to Windows version now.

Personally, I should just be using one the the Linux distros. The gaming is pretty worked out on that now.
The problem is the Adobe suit. I could use it in VM install of Windows on that but I like to go full screen
with the Adobe programs. I had already tried the VM option, and that was one of the downsides for me.

And I stated previously, I could do the dual boot. But Windows still doesn't rather like that and the best way to
do that is remove the NVMe drive and then do the boot with the other drive.

I've been through all the scenarios and just using Windows is the easiest and laziest option.

Unfortunate as that is.

The consequences of not installing security updates:

Vulnerability to attacks. Exposing your device to potential malware infections and cyberthreats.
- Not a real problem with good anti-malware, anti-virus and firewall software, including Windows Defender. Be careful opening files.

Compromised personal information. Such as credit card details and personal identification numbers.
- You should not store that on an online computer. Be careful where you share it online (has nothing to do with security updates though).

Disruption of services. Upgrades to the stability and performance of your devices.
- Why upgrade if it already works stable. Only if there is a bug that's annoying and if it's fixed, then update/upgrade.

Loss of future support. Manufacturers and service providers might require the latest security updates
- I don't contact them. Never had.

Wider impact on security. When multiple users do not install security updates, it creates a network of vulnerable points.
- Based on fear. Not a real problem with good anti-malware, anti-virus and firewall software.

Potential data loss.
- Make backups!
