Re: Airship and more
I have not been idle. Since redoing the OS install on my computer, I've been on a quest for grass and trees. The end results can be seen below. I ended up getting Vray render since it has a better stuff for grass but the trees are still tricky because I want them as close to Lazytown style as possible and that means making custom trees. I used max's built in trees, turned off leaves and other stuff leaving only the trunk and branches and shaped the tree canopy accordingly and created my own leaves using opacity maps. Gotta admit the tree and grass came out pretty good.
However, I hit another road block. Memory. The problem with max and it's renders even using the cameras is that when you go to render it compiles the whole scene instead of only the geometry in the camera view which that previous broken plugin had built into it's camera render.
I can only add one tree at this time (the other tree is an instance not a copy so it doesn't take up memory space it uses the first tree memory location and places it at whatever spot you instance it at) because anything more than that sends max into a tizzy. I only have 4 gigs on this rig which really is bare minimum when dealing with large 3dsmax scenes. So I either have to get at least 16gigs or find a Camera plugin that will only deal with the geometry in the camera's view.
I'm quiet happy with the results so far except for the new road block with the memory issue.
