Anyone thought of translating Latibaer?

It's rather interesting how things turned out.

kelly, what have you done so far with the subtitles? Also, what program do you use for the subtitles? I use aegisub and gives quite a bit of control with all sorts of fancy stuff (a lot better than the Sub-Station Alpha program I was using, I must admit). Which reminds me, does anyone know a font that looks like the one in the first play? Again, which brings me to something else, should that font even be copied? That font is hard to read at times. About doing the subtitles, there are a few steps a guide once told me. A general timing step just to show where everything would go and the final step to clean everything up (like no line should last 8 seconds kind of thing). We should probably discuss that at some point.

nv821 and Nalla are native speakers, but like I said, I'm not sure how busy with life they will get. I'm also not sure if they would be interested in translating the play actually. How about agisu? Would she be interested in helping, I remember the last time I asked she was quite busy. I was thinking of breaking up the plays into sections so that each section can be worked on by different people. Hopefully there won't be any interference as a result.

I've also got my own numbering for that now so as to not confused the 03s. I also have the pre-timing for those so choose one and I'll give that one up. This pre-timing makes things easier for me when I do the subtitles. I think it makes it easier for the translator since they will know when each potential line will start.

I have the whole interview with Stefán Karl's wife, or girlfriend at the time. The problem is I'm not sure if the whole interview should be translated (1 hour long), or just the parts with Stefán Karl (phone proposal and car part).

Well, I'm willing to do the subtitles, seeing as I did already start doing them for the LJ BBS version of this project.

I'm working on reformatting the tables to display them elsewhere.

I swear that when this first came up at the LJ BBS you were practically paranoid that they'd be stolen. :?

Yes, I'm saying that I've completed translating those songs. I have the lyrics in Icelandic, the direct translation, and then a smoother English version derived from the direct, word-for-word translations I did. I'm putting things in tables for organization and easy comparison purposes. I should be finished and they should be posted sometime tonight after I get back from work.

Wow, I'm so glad to see people are interested in doing this. I definetly want to help in some way shape or form but have no idea what I could do. I can't translate anything, I do not know how to subtitle, I'm not a grammar nazi........:( hmmmmm. Nindanjoe, if you could let me know what you have translated out of all the icelandic news clips I could probably find someone to translate a few of them.

We also need to someday get that one translated of Stefan's wife talking on that talkshow and it shows Stefan in the car driving.

Those lyrics are Aggisu's. I've actually been working with her on some of the transcriptions when I get stuck.

I'm actually using Goldwave to tweak the files to bring out the vocals more while dimming the other instruments, then Express Scribe to slow down the files without distorting the sound.

I just thought I'd see what it's possible to do with online resources, and I was able to come up with this: my translation of the mayor's first song from Afram LatiBaer. Granted, there's a good chance that it's wrong, but I think it's pretty good considering that I have no experience with Icelandic.

Mayor: Life is foul in LazyTown/it’s barely life at all. Rest here in the quiet and sleep/ nobody is stingy. No one plays outside/everybody is alone, inside. Idleness makes fools/ with the television’s help. The conditions are so terrible/ no one is able to change anything. Everyone has no cares in the world/ no one does anything.

Of course, I agree that the biggest problem is going to be figuring out what they're saying without Icelandic subtitles, I had to try all kinds of spellings before I was able to figure out that grænmeti was vegetables. And understanding anything that Siggi says is just impossible.

What are you using to make the audio a little clearer? Listening to that Russian clip, I might play around in Audacity to clean up the audio to make it a little easier to hear.

I have large amounts of Icelandic resources, more than the few online dictionaries contain, so unless we'll be working with a native speaker... you might want to count me in.

I was originally intending to transcribe and translate the plays after the songs were done... but transcripting is a horror, even with the programs I've been using. If we're relying on non-natives to transcribe, that will be the part that takes the longest. Once I have text, translating will be relatively easy.

Thanks, everyone. :) About the translating to other languages like Spanish and Russian, I have thought about that ever since I saw someone over at WoJ said they were translating stuff into German; I forgot who was going to do that though. So if there's a demand for it, I'll need you folks for that. :)

For the editing, there might be a few chances to practice to see how we work together and stuff.

Me too, except I could translate into Russian in case...well, in case someone just so happens to want that done.
