The rain and wind are not from Hurricane Melissa, which battered the Caribbean this week, but from an inland storm system moving throughout the Northeast. The storm is one of the factors keeping Melissa away from the U.S.

The NWS also reported that 1.97 inches of rain fell at LaGuardia Airport, which would preliminarily break the previous known record set in 1955, the department said.

More than 1,000 flights have been canceled in the U.S., mostly in the Northeast, according to FlightAware. John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport, both in Queens, were also experiencing ground delays due to wind.

1.80 inches fell in Central Park. That's a lot of rain.
And that's a lot of flights cancelled.

Thursday marked a record-breaking day in Central Park, too. The NWS reported that 1.80 inches of rain fell there, which broke the previous record of 1.64 inches set in 1917, according to New York City Emergency Management.

Records date back to 1896.

That doesn't seem like much of a record. Look what happened here in Central Florida on Sunday before Melissa even got near Jamaica (unrelated to Melissa).

I saw some more videos, made with drones flying over some areas that were hit by the storm, where you see that all houses, trees and everything is damaged. Much worse than the first video I saw.

Heavy rain in NYC. Saw a video where the West Side Highway looked more like a river and cars making waves as they drove through the flooding. Coincidence maybe, or related to the storm. Not sure. Poor drainage probably too as everything is stone.

Nicer temperature has gone south. Winter is coming to the northern hemisphere.

That. The past two mayors haven't been taking care of the city maintenance as well as they should. Particularly drainage.
Current Mayor Adams has been the worst with big cuts to sanitation.

Subways stations got flooded again too. The usual. Especially this time of year with the leaves falling and collecting
over the drain grates.



That's a mildly blocked one. I've seen drain grates completely covered.
That's what happened in Queen, Bronx and Brooklyn besides Manhattan.

I started seeing things pop up about Melissa thought it was a new Hurricane coming up but nope.
Still the fallout from the storm on the islands. I didn't recognize the name right away.

Newly released data show that Hurricane Melissa produced a wind gust of 252 miles per hour—just 1 mph shy of the fastest wind gust ever measured on Earth, according to the World Meteorological Organization, and 4 mph faster than the most powerful gust ever measured in a tropical cyclone at sea.

This year, no hurricanes hit US main land.

People in the pacific region weren't so lucky.

There really isn't any reporting here of typhoon damage. We usually have our own storms to worry about.
